I have a Sig P-6 and have been carrying it in the woods and field for a while now with FMJ's rounds . They tend to feed reliably rather than HPs .
Who here carries a Sig P-6 regulary around town and all for their carry gun ? And what have you did or what mod's have you did to make it feed hollow points reliably ?
I want to make it my everyday carry when not at work but I dont want to carry FMJ's as they would over penetrate .

147gr options

Don't own that Sig model, as my 2 Sig 9mm's - P229R & P228n/r use the Winchester Ranger 147gr SXT JHP's

But you might try some of these Winchester Ranger flat nose 147gr ammo, as it may feed in your gun and you'll get the punch you need and less chance of over-penetration.

You will find that they are very consistent in accuracy and are the cleanest shooting ammo you'll ever see - when you look inside any/every spent cartridge and see no black powder, rather, pure clean brass, as if rdy to load..

Worth the investment in this brand/type ammo for SD/HD needs..

OMMV,

P225's feed JHP just fine, it's the feed ramp on the P6's that cause them to not feed JHP, even with polishing. I know because I own one.

A buddy of mine replaced the barrel on his P6, and it feeds JHP just fine.

Another thing both of us did was to replace the black on black sights with TFO sights. Highly recommend the new sights.

I carry the P6 pretty much every day. Going to the p220 compact now that we're getting into winter coat weather. Two projects for the P6 this winter - adding bar-dot sights, and replacing the hammer (the issued hammer seems to dig into my side a bit more than the commercial 225 hammer).

I would search for the fix as this is a common issue with earlier P6s and I bet it would be under $50 to change the contour of the feed ramp to allow better feeding of hollow point ammunition...great pistol that should offer plenty of service life...

how hard is that to replace ?
They arent hard to fiddle with, but they are easier if you have this to help....

If you do the hammer or not, I'd also suggest changing out the mainspring. It will give you a more "commercial" SIG DA trigger feel.

I had two P6's, one an early gun with the older ramp profile, and a later one with the change. Both fed everything without issue. If yours isnt feeding HP's reliably and dont want to bother with getting the ramp done, Federal's "Expanding Full Metal Jacket" loading may be another choice. I've used them in guns that were picky about hollow points with good results.

I did do the mainspring change on both my guns. I also did a complete spring swap on the older one. I also exchanged the factory sights for Meprolights. Top Gun Supply is a good source for parts and accessories if youre looking.

Silversport - I doesn't get that cold in my neck of the woods. You guys in Illinois probably need to bundle up a whole lot more than down here. We don't really need to do the layers and layers, unless the weather really gets cold, in which case I'd go to 9mm or .357 mag.

I carried Federal 147gr HP in mine (4/83) when I used to carry it. Mods included a complete action job and 225 factory hammer spring, and hard-chromed Hogue grip screws (I sweat like a Ridley Scott alien, apparently). I've since retired it, though. I've also run MagTech 115gr HP through it without a hitch, so you might look into that, too.
