I was on gunbroker.com when I stumbled on a particular auction that caught my eye. The seller was telling this wonderful story about how his item would keep you from possibly being shot by police officers when involved in a threat situation. The seller was auctioning off CCW "badges".

After flashing this "CCW badge" at a cop, I wonder how long it would be before one was placed under arrest for impersonating a cop.

What are your thoughts?

This is a very contentious topic that has been well discussed here in the past. The majority think that it's beyond silly to the point of almost dangerous, and some defend it as harmless.

I wouldn't buy one. Can you imagine what the cop would say after opening your wallet to pull out your driver license after getting pulled over

You can't get in trouble unless you flash that to impersonate a cop. I think its kinda stupid in the first place, but if you got one it shouldn't do harm. I wouldn't get one. Its silly.

This poor old horse has taken a lot of licks and the general consensus seems to be you should only do it if you can find a CCW badge that looks good with your Roy Rogers secret decoder ring!!:p

Ugh.

Officer will find out soon enough with that License and CCW Permit you hand to him; IF the weapon is on your person or inside the vehicle you are driving. Best just to hand it to him and tell him your armed, not armed and then SHUT UP.

Badges made of make believe get you into trouble; sort of like trying to walk into town wearing airbourne boots.

The choices are dumb, so I cannot answer correctly.

It's a bad idea, but it has nothing to do with losing your permit (which we don't have here in WA anyway).

And who's to say who can acquire such a badge in a public sale so as to determine they're actually a "good" guy?

I'd be more inclined to believe Gecko45 was with a special forces outfit before I'd believe somebody flashing that nonsense at me.

I voted the good Idea, but I was being sarcastic. It is a unaminous decision that those things do more harm than good

B-A-D idea could easily be mistaken for LEO badge and therefore give a false impression and maybe get you arrested for impersination. Just an all around bad idea.

Seems like there was a thread about a year ago where a person got charged with impersonating a cop because of one of these things. personaly my badge is a little laminated white card the size of a credit card issued by the state of Va. Thats all I need. My other badge says Firefighter:rolleyes:

Shouldn't the state issue or option the badge if it decides and not the individual take it upon himself?
Exactly gives creedance to the term " If I needed________ it would have been issued to me"

With an actual badge in posession instead of a card, I can see some young ccwers letting it get to their head and turning them into half assed vigilantes.

The very fact that ANYONE can buy one on EBay is demonstrative that this is a TERRIBLE idea. The badge loses its credibility (it never had any) by the fact that anyone can buy it.

This reminds me of the "Private Investigator" badges that used to be for sell in gun rags in the 80's.

i dont know if you would loose your permit or not. but it does not take a genius to figure out that if the cops started believing this, the bad guys would jump all over it in a heartbeat. and we all would know what would happen next. if you are ever in such a situation, make certain the cops know what is going on, and do what they tell you!

With an actual badge in posession instead of a card,
again another well illustrated problem with these. The fact that you are carrying with out a card, at least in Va makes you illegal.

I use my CCW badge at bars to pick up chicks. It gives me an opening to impress them with my ex-CIA stories. Then I tell them about my war wounds...("No baby, don't worry, I'm perfectly good down there...where it counts.";) Works most of the time, especially if they are drunk. :D
