Keep one at home to gawk at and fondle, if you wish. I can't believe the responding LEOs would look upon such a thing favorably if you actually used it in such a capacity.

A police "raid jacket" with a pull-down panel saying "POLICE" (with the word "CALL" added for non-LEO use) has some merit, but is impractical when it is 90 degrees out.

The scariest thing about these badges is that there must be a market for them ar they wouldn't be making them.

Anyone know anybody that actually owns one?

I live in Ohio. Whenever I carry a concealed handgun, I am required to carry my Ohio CHL and another form of LEGAL identification. A CCW "badge" is neither of those. Since that's the case, I would benefit no more from carrying one than I would from carrying a dead bird in my pocket. Of course the dead bird wouldn't cost my anything.

I'm not a cop.
I don't want to be a cop.
I don't want people to think I'm a cop.

There's no reason for me to carry a "badge" until such a thing is LEGISLATED to be an acceptable substitute for the combination of an Ohio CHL and my driver's license.

The badges are for mall ninjas to impress their less firearm savvy friends. Complete garbage.

Anyone old enough to remember Humphrey Bogart, Walter Huston, Tim Holt in the treasure of the Sierra madre?

Badges? We don't need no stinking badges! :D

The badges are a retarded idea. The guy who works my local WalMart sporting has one and is proud to show it off.

Now check this out. I walked out of the WalMart the other day to see a PT Cruiser parked and on the back windshield it said

"Licensed to Carry Concealed Weapon" and had the SC CWP Number below that.

I wonder if that was his car?

How stupid.

:eek::confused::rolleyes:

If I were a thief looking to score a gat to stick up a liquor store, that would be the first place I would look.

I'm sure it's bought by CCW holders who think that they are out to protect the world, and play cop. I think that it was a good idea, but the cops are only going to think that you are also a cop, not CCW. In the end when they figure out that you're not a cop, well maybe that's better than them shooting you. I think that practically it's a bad idea, but in theory it works, kinda like socialism.

I use my CCW badge at bars to pick up chicks.
I've heard of guys using wedding bands. Made it real easy to sort out which girls were looking for something special, or just a fling.

Anyone know anybody that actually owns one?
No, but I have seen a few customers that were awfully proud of them. One of them actually had his CHP.

Like everyone else here, I have fantasized about being the only guy with a gun when a mass-murder situation goes down.

So...

The killer is picking people off as he comes down the hall. I find my position. When he is where I want him, I fire. We exchange gunfire. I win. He goes down.

MEANWHILE, a police officer following the mandated "Active Shooter" protocol has just entered the hallway with one mandated intention: Shoot the guy with the gun.

And guess who that is?

When you have just been actively shooting, how do you avoid being identified as the Active Shooter?

So I get the badge thing. If you have a badge on, maybe that officer will think twice about shooting you. After all, a plain-clothes detective could plausibly have shown up at the scene, maybe.

But it doesn't seem like the best strategy, and it requires mounting your badge as part of your actions in the situation. Probably better to just drop your weapon near you as soon as the immediate threat is gone, and transition to "terrified civilian" body language as soon as possible. The officer is specifically trained not to shoot terrified civilians. Not so much "gunman with weird badge."

If you're not a cop, and you enter a violent situation with your weapon, you're risking getting shot by the bad guys and the cops and any armed civilians like you who have entered the fray but don't understand your role. That's just how it is. You present a gun, you promote yourself to Person Who Must Be Shot. A fake badge is not a cure for this status.

Re: CCW Badge.

If you build it - they will buy it.

Bad idea, very bad.

I find it interesting, that those that have to wear a uniform and badge, cannot wait to get home to change out of the uniform, and remove badge, and other "tools" of the profession.

Same professionals cannot wait until they can retire, and not have to wear uniform, badge, and "tools" of the profession.

Where as J.Q. Public, has those persons that buy badges, clothing, and "tools" so they can be like Police, Military, Firefighters, ....

Downright disrespectful if you ask me.

You want a badge?
Go sign up to be a cop and earn the damn right to wear one!

azhunter had my thoughts going on there.... that's the first thing i thought when saw this thread. i'm really begining to think everyone should start open carrying.......... there has to be a couple million of us who has a handgun and a holster...........

LIFE IS SHORT.....

For Travis- I'm racking my brain to imagine a situation where cops seeing a strange badge in a shootout would do anything but confuse them.

I'm with Deanimator. I decided a long time ago I don't want to be a cop.

In Utah, flashing HANDCUFFS is impersonating a police officer. Now ask yourself, if asking cops about gun laws is a bad idea, how good of an idea is it to trust them to know THIS kind of law?

TravisB, I dont fantasize about stopping the mass murderer. Thought in passing about it but you aint gonna catch ME or wife IN a

GUN. FREE. ZONE!!!! No sir.

ok?

MEANWHILE, a police officer following the mandated "Active Shooter" protocol has just entered the hallway with one mandated intention: Shoot the guy with the gun.
So after you "win" put your gun away.........its that easy.:banghead:
After all, a plain-clothes detective could plausibly have shown up at the scene, maybe.
hmmmmmmm..............sounds strangly like leaning toward impersonating a cop
But it doesn't seem like the best strategy,
you should have stoped right there.
Probably better to just drop your weapon near you as soon as the immediate threat is gone, and transition to "terrified civilian" body language as soon as possible.
Now you leave your gun and run off like all the rest of the people........thats a great plan:uhoh:
If you're not a cop, and you enter a violent situation with your weapon, you're risking getting shot by the bad guys and the cops and any armed civilians like you who have entered the fray but don't understand your role.
well thats why you dont get involved in someone elses gun fight.
A fake badge is not a cure for this status
and at the end common sense prevails:rolleyes:

Apparently this is the next big thing. All the cool kids are doing it... :neener:
