CCW D'OH! moments

Same thing happened in downtown SLC at Trolly Square about three or four years ago. The area was well posted with signs declaring it a "gun-free" zone. All the signs did was assure the gunman that he would go on his rampage without any adversary. I'll restrain from using the cliche about outlawing guns.

This is all BS! As a police officer I have no restrictions on where I can carry my guns. Citizens should have the same restrictions as we (cops) do!
AND you are from NJ!
What a rare bird indeed! I'll bet you ride a Unicorn to work, across a beautiful rainbow. Well done!

Mine happened at the fitness center at which my toddler daughter takes swim lessons. It's not unlawful to carry there, but it is posted prohibited. The center is owned by the same health system (hospital and related) for which I work. Every one of its facilities is supposedly a "weapons-free" zone.
Anyway, my daughter and I arrived at the center and set up alongside the indoor lesson pool, which is alongside the bigger lap pool. I usually doff my shirt and shoes, as well as her shoes, poolside at the bench so I have less to carry into the changing room. I removed my shirt as usual, then picked up my daughter (then right about two years old) and headed off to the changing room, completely forgetting that I had not removed my belt-carried PF9. It was now openly displayed, which was both a violation of premises policy and state law (Florida has since decriminalized the brief, non-threatening open display of a usually-concealed firearm.) There were several people seated about, most of them senior citizens from up north. At least some had to have seen the gun. I quickly positioned my daughter's body to conceal it as much as I could, returned to the bench, and retrieved my shirt to drape across my arm and weapon. Nothing was said about it as far as I know. I'm sure that, if it was seen, I was simply assumed to be an off-duty LEO.

I'm glad for Florida's restaurant-carry law. Though it could be improved, it does not prohibit carry while in a restaurant that serves alcohol, nor does it prohibit consuming alcohol while carrying. What it does prohibit is carry in an establishment that derives 90 percent or more of its revenue from the sale of alcohol; in other words, a bar. It also prohibits carry while seated or consuming in the "bar" portion of a restaurant, if there is one, but the dining area is fair game.

A few Saturdays ago we were at Fleet Farm and my lovely wife suggested that I get a couple new pairs of jeans. Without saying anything she grabbed my sweatshirt and pulled it up to see the size tag on my jeans, fully exposing the j-frame and IWB holster to nearby shoppers...

In Michigan, you may not carry into a bar, unless your a bonified employee. You may carry in restaurants that serve alcohol, provided the sale of alcohol is not their main business. Places like Olive Garden, TGI Fridays and similar are ok. You can not sit at the bar, and may never have a BAC more than .02% Of course, no carry into Federal Buildings, courts or the post office. We have other Pistol Free Zones (ie CRIMINAL EMPOWERMENT ZONES ) such as churches, casinos, hospitals, daycares and all schools. Now, if your a LEO, retired LEO, judge, social worker etc.....you can break all the above rules, and have the privlidge to protect yourself anywhere. Michigan is currently reviewing the Criminal Empowerment Zones, and may remove those restrictions. There are some AG opinions regarding CPL holders OC in restricted areas, and according to them, its legal. Unfortunately, there is no case law to back it up.

I once while giving an estimate at a wells fargo facility forgot to remove it, they wand and pat down to enter had to go back to the truck. It made for an awkward estimate. But I still got the job!
I don't worry to much any more, that's why they call it concealed. I'm carefull to remove it before I go into a school or gov buildings just to be safe. But anywere else dosent really concern me . Why does it matter if nobody knows? It is no ones buisness what is tucked in and concealed on my body. Don't be a jerk off and give a reason for anyone to search you.

See, that irritates the snot outta me. Social workers? Retired cops? These "super classes" of citizenry are contrary to the idea of our republic.
