So im looking for a .380 or 9mm bug gun, something reliable but easy on the budget and small enough for pocket or comfortable for summer carry i have a s&w 40 for winter carry but to large for me in summer clothes.. any suggestions

looking at taurus 738, taurus slim 9, keltech p3at, keltech p9 or 11, db 380 or 9 etc.. all under 350-400 bucks.. and small.

I just have one note, if you get something like a P3AT, get the grip extentions for the magazine. Night and day difference for controllability, and definitely worth the 12 bucks.

I have both the Keltec PF9 and P3AT. I picked the the PF9 up for $269 (blued) Don't remember what I paid for the P3AT, maybe $220, but both have been issue free after 550 to 600 rnds, they are not safe queens by any means, business only. Both have a slim profile. They are not the type of guns you take to the range for 25 yrd shooting, but for what your looking for, one or both will satisfy your needs.

I will second the P3AT or PF9, I have them both and they are great. I don't like large pocket guns, I would recommend the P3AT for that purpose. I carry the PF9 IWB.

what about the power diff between 380 and 9mm? saying that nay encounter would be prolly 3-10 yards does it make a big difference or?

I'll throw the curveball here....
I daily carry either one of my FEG PA-63's or one of my Polish Radon P-64's.
Ballistics in between the two calibers you mention. Much more reliable/dependable than most the guns being recommended here> Military manufacturing specs. You mentioned budget....either of the guns mentioned will be under $200...ammo is plentiful and cheap. Most of the MilSurp pistols are literally new.

I have all the Glocks/S&W etc. I still carry my MilSurps.

The Mil Surps might be a little on the heavy side. I do have a couple Hungarian PA-63's that I only paid $100 each but are dead ass accurate with my hornady XTP loads and the wolf brands. But I will still stand by the Keltecs.

thanks for the quick responses.. im gonna do more checking on the sig and keltech 9mm but i can buy taurus at wholesale cost :) 220 for brand new 738...

thanks.. also the weight of the milsurp guns through me off if i want heave ill carry my 40 lol.

If it were me, I'd rule out the Kel-Tec 3AT and the DB380. The Taurus TCP and the Ruger LCP are the same size, more dependable, and well within your price range. That's for the smallest of the smallest.

For a 9mm, I'd much prefer the Kel-Tec PF9 over the P11. I think it is better designed and more reliable. The DB9 is smaller than both, but not as reliable in my opinion. I cannot speak to the Taurus slim.

You MAY be able to find a Kahr CM9 (it's a new model) for almost $400. IF you do, then THAT is the best choice on here. It would be the smallest 9mm on the list, obviously much better than .380, and with a grip extension would be the most comfortable and reliable to shoot.

Don't forget the Ruger LCP and LC9-probaby what I'd recommend as a baseline to someone asking that question.

Doesn't mean you have to get 'em-just use 'em for a baseline-they're hard to beat for the quality and price.

what about the power diff between 380 and 9mm?
If the size of the gun doesn't bother you, I'd go with a 9 for both the difference in ammo prices and a little extra oomph!

price is one of the biggest factors, just paid for ccw and daughter coming in a couple weeks but dont wanna go so cheap i wont have a reliable bug gun.. its looking more like the taurus tcp just because of the extra mag and the price 220 i can get it for new and the cool slide lock taurus uses.. and made in usa

My KT P3AT has been 100%, along with a lot of friends that have them as well. The LCP has better fit and finish, and a slide lock...but isn't any more dependable in my experience. And I would never buy another Taurus based on my experience.

The Taurus TCP should serve you well, once it is proven with your chosen ammunition. The Diamondback DB9 is slightly smaller than the Kel-Tec PF9, but is unproven, and the PF9 is as small as I'd want to go in a 9mm platform (this is my EDC.)
The Ruger LCP and the Kel-Tec P3-AT are both US-made, the latter being manufactured just up the road a ways from me. The Ruger incorporates a slide-lock; the Kel-Tec does only on the little sister, the P-32 (which is my pocket-piece on rare occasion, or my BUG on much-more frequent occasion.)

I prefer and own the PF9. It has been a solid performer for over 3 yrs now. I also have a PA63 but it is 10ozs heavier than the PF9 and larger size4 in a caliber that isn't as potent as the 9mm Luger. That being said I will occassionally carry my PA63 just because I like it.

I have a Ruger LCP and I love it. It's plenty small, and it cost me about $350 for the package which included gun, extra magazine, and a pocket holster.

if i could find a used gun in the 200-250 range like the lcp, or 3at etc id be sold like i said super budget lol.. i can get theses guns whole sale that fit criteria and budget

db380 280
db9 310
tcp 220
pt 709 310
walther pk380 kinda big i know but 300 new lol

I have like others the P3AT and the PF-9 KelTec Both have been flawless. Since I got the 9mm My 380 has had a break. Ialso say use the finger extension on either But on the 9mm for sure . I have a mag with and 1 with out my group really opens with out the finger rest in the 9mm.
