Howdy,
I've been pocket-carrying a Ruger LCP for a couple of months (love it), but today noticed how much lint/dust/crud gets inside the spare mag I carry in my off-hand pocket (with nothing else in it). I don't use that pocket for anything else but grit/dirt still gets inside the mag through the holes in the side.

Just a heads up to any who haven't thought of it before. Just unloaded, disassembled and wiped down the mag and it's back to clean. At least for a while. ;)

Put it in a case . I have a nylon knife sheath I carry spare mags in. on my belt People just think a pocket knife. Can reach them Might be hard to get aa spare mag out of front pocket in some situtions

you should always periodically check carry equipment. everyone carries a different way, so the time between periodic checks is up to each individual. i find that every 3 months or 100 rounds i would field strip and clean my 380... my 9 and 40 cal gets checked more often than that, from lint around the muzzle, and around the back end of the slide.

Once a week I take a can of spray air (the stuff for blowing out computers) and blow the dust and lint out of my carry guns. It's a really quick, easy way to keep stuff from building up.

that's true. However if I have to worry about belts/cases/sheaths I may not carry extra ammo at all... so I figure it's worth the tradeoff. For me. After all my gun is in my pocket...

I have to clean my barrel also because the holster is open bottomed. Lint/etc. gets around the hammers. Was cycling the action on a 45 and the hammer would not lock back. So much lint had built up that it would have failed to fire. About once a week I check and clean them. Great idea on the knife holster for spare mags--thanks, wc
