The ONLY reason for having a CCW badge is so that you can allow others to form the impression that you are a cop.

The only reason to have a CCW badge is so that you don't get shot by the police, after the self defense shooting takes place. When the cops arrive on the scene, it might prevent them from shooting the victim/CCW by mistake when they arrive on the scene. All questions of what the badge represents could be sorted out later. Hell, cops have been known to shoot other COPS by mistiake, be they undercover, off duty, etc, when involved in a shooting. Anything that buys you a little more "safety" in a high stress incident MIGHT be worth it. And if people want to make fun of you because they don't see a reason for it, let them. If I was a cop responding to a shooting, I might question if the presence of a CCW badge had anything to do with pretending to be a cop, or aggravating the event, but if no information led me to believe that it had any negative aspects, I'd treat it like ot was just what it is, an aid to identifying a CCW carrier (after all, isn't that what is printed on the badge?) A badge means nothing without the authority to go with it.
funny, raising your empty hands in the air seems like a much better way of indicating, "don't shoot me" than pointing a shiny object in the direction of an approaching officer while standing over some dead guy
When the state of Indiana uses a badge as a CCW permit I will get one. Till then I stand by my opinion than they are more dangerous than useful.
