Concealed gun permits soar 215%, record 14.5 million, 'explode under Obama'

By PAUL BEDARD (@SECRETSBEDARD) • 8/10/16 12:37 PM

Americans now holding permits to pack a concealed weapon in public has soared 215 percent since 2007 to over 14.5 million, a record, according to a new report. The Crime Prevention Research Center said that last year alone a record 1.73 million were approved in states requiring them. John. R. Lott Jr., president of the Center, added that as the number of concealed carry permits has increased, the murder rate has dropped.

"Previously, the increase in permits had been relatively slow, growing from roughly 2.7 million permit holders in 1999 to 4.6 million in 2007.

The take away is, far from being the "Wild West" as many Anti's predicted, violent crime has fallen while the % of the population carrying firearms rises!

"— Between 2007 and 2015, murder rates fell from 5.6 to 4.7 (preliminary estimate) per 100,000. This represents a 16% drop. Overall violent crime fell by 18 percent. Meanwhile, the percentage of adults with permits has soared by 190%."

Considering several States have done away with requiring permits the number of more people carrying is even higher! When my State finally got Constitutional Carry several people I know started carrying. Many of which took safety courses of their own accord (the ones that didn't have been shooting so long they really didn't need it, just never got around to getting a permit before Constitutional Carry).

I wonder how many of those 14.5 million will vote for HC? If she threatens to take away their guns, they just may go to the dark side. I'm not talking about the mainstream gun owners population but rather the soccer moms and suburbanites who feel that SD is a serious necessity. Hopefully we'll get 14 million of the 14.5 voting our way. I believe this anti-gun agenda will hurt HC more than she realizes. We need all the help we can get to keep her out of office and all the new gun owners many just be the swing votes we need.

As Ryanxia mentioned, add all non-prohibited adults beyond the age of 20 residing in "Constitutional-carry" states to that amount. Sure, most may not be carrying, but they all have de facto licenses/permits to do so now.

Granted, they may not have played the part in having those "permits" like those who actually applied for them did, but their track record for placing leaders in office who have brought this about cannot be ignored.

The trouble is, the hoop-jumping many folks have to go through to obtain a carry permit are just the very hoops she'd apparently like as her "first steps" toward limiting all firearms. In other words, universal firearms ownership licencing.

In still other words, if that kind of hoop-jumping is OK for 14.5 million CCW-ers, it ought to be OK for everybody, for every arm... right?

I say, "first step," but I really mean the 20,000th* step.

I applaud the so-called "Constitutional Carry" movement, and I see that as "the way things ought to be in Terry's world."

That is, with no pre-assumptions that you are a criminal and have to prove otherwise to be "permitted" to excercise a fundamental civil right.

* A possibly apocryphal number bandied about as to the total number of firearms laws in this country. Accurate or not, I use it as a term of art representing the vast collection of onerous laws regarding firearms.

When we returned to North Carolina from a Yankee State, NC did not allow concealed carry where as our Yankee State of residence did which was a shall issue state.

On our return to NC no concealed carry allowed but shortly there after concealed carry was in acted but with more requirements and restrictions than the Yankee State we had returned from. Concealed Carry has been become less restrictive with amendments to the law plus reciprocity with other states.

Your county of resident Sherriff Dept. can be problematic concerning issue and renewal processing times.

hopefully they recognize the danger of a third term for Obama (hillary) and how important it is to vote for a candidate that will appoint supreme court justices that stick to the constitution and not legislate from the bench.

When I was getting my license for the first time there was an older gentleman renewing his.

We talked a bit and he admitted he only owned 1 gun (.38snubbie) and only carried it during the summer at night when he went down to a local beach with his telescope for star gazing.

But just the fact that he bothered to go through the license process I count as a win because we tend to vote with our wallets on issues that we feel important.
