Maybe the problem is not "assault weapons" (is there a non-assault weapon?) but,oh just throwing this out here...a cycle of poverty and dependence on a welfare state? Growing disillusion with said state? Cultures that glorify violence and criminal stigmas, and portray the police as bad guys? The War on Drugs, which keeps the price of drugs artificially inflated, therefore making the risk of selling drugs worth it to young capitalists, who are then persecuted for wanting to make a buck? Maybe there'd be less criminals if they had a better chance to make a living doing something else, rather than perpetuating the cycle of gang violence?
Just sayin'. What do I know.
I think I agree with you on 99% of the above. I do think if some idiot want to ruin his body with drugs let him, I just have a problem with ruining his family and most importantly children he needs to take care of with their addiction
The way I see "gun violence" is not the easy access to guns . Its the reliance on people of the state, and pure lazieness yes your country is there to take care of you but WHAT HAVE YOU DONE to take care of your country!?!?!?
Give people welfare/child care/education services---but MAKE them work for it and repay the services that are given, Not me or the others who work hard for a living and never ask their country for anything in return. I suppose I could quote JFK here but you understand me I think.
Everybody wants to blame someone for the problems of society and not take responsibility, especially people from the "brady bunch". What do they REALLY do to help out these so called disenfranchised people of gun violence? Do they volunteer their time with child care while mother gets an education? Do they teach a skill or trade to those that need them? No they dont. They only inflate their own egos by beating the drum the loudest to only those that agree with them.
And what have I done? Served my country for the past 17 yrs and during that time volunteered (overseas albeit) at orphanages, schools for problem students and coached Special Olympics skiing in Idaho. Its not hard to take a couple of hours a month and work at a womens shelter, job center etc. How many hours do you sit in front of the TV ?
so sorry rant over.--I saw this article at work tonight and it got me wound up--knew it would have a few pages by the time i came home too.
But good for the police being well armed, let them have better than the low life's that would hurt them. But shame on them (Certain ones!) that want to disarm those that are willing to defend their families/freedom and country!
