my neck of the woods. the comments seem good so far on the TBO link.

Smith fired "multiple times'' at Hauser, who was hit four times. Hauser shouted for Smith to stop shooting, pulled off his mask and said his handgun was a "fake," police said.

That wasn't true, police said; Hauser actually had a real – and loaded – .25 caliber automatic pistol.

an interesting twist to the story.... fuel for strategy and tactics discussion?

surprise, suprise.... armed robber is a liar too!

+1 for the driver, if it was a 5 shot snubby and he fired all 5 shots, he hit 80%.

getting my popcorn and soda pop for the ensuing caliber wars..... :)

Criminal gets what he deserves

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida - Authorities say a would-be victim pulled a gun and shot a man who tried to rob him in a restaurant parking lot in St. Petersburg.

Victim Shoots Robbery Suspect

I especially love this part though...

Hauser was struck four times and yelled at Smith to stop shooting. He pulled the mask off his face and claimed the gun he was holding was a "fake." Investigators later learned Hauser's gun was actually a fully loaded and operational 25 cal. auto.

Imagine that, a criminal liar.

17 years old, and already pulling armed robberies. :banghead:

Hopefully from now on, every time Mr. Hausner contemplates a repeat performance, he takes a look at the bullet and surgery scars and changes his mind.

Hopefully someone else can learn from his mistakes as well. Violent felonies are a dangerous business, sometimes the victims don't play along.

says he doesn't need to carry a gun, because he lives in the nice part
yeah, sure ... you live in a "nice area" and the scumbags don't have cars or the ability to get more than a few blocks from their front doors.

Tell your friend that he's running on wishful thinking instead of common sense.

Wait! Was he still holding the gun when he stated it was a fake? What caliber gun was smith using, so I know what NOT to use.

QUOTE from the article
The car's driver, 34-year-old Raven Smith, saw Hauser with the gun and pulled his own weapon, a .38 caliber handgun for which he has a concealed weapons permit, police said.

4 shots and the dude was still inherent enough to tell him to stop shooting?

note to self - dont buy a .38...especially a revolver that doesnt hold many shots

the victim is lucky the BG didnt start shooting back, apparently he was still capable if he took off his mask and told the guy to stop shooting him

I will bet you any amount of money that we as tax payers will be footing the bill for this badguys hospital stay.

Money well-spent! It made the news, and maybe hundreds of would-be teenage thieves will decide it is easier to WORK for money.

@tbutera: Say what you want, but it did the trick, and he probably didn't have to pay for too much damage to other folks' cars after exiting the crook.

+1. I couldn't have said it better myself.

We just finished a 6800 mile, 4 week road trip, coast to coast. After getting the hell out of Kali and crossing into Arizona, I politely let my wife and older daughter know that things are done a bit different in these upcoming states and that a smile and good manners would serve us all very well (which we do anyways, but that's not the point). I basically just let them know that most everyone is carrying and that unless there's some psychotic-psycho hiding in the bushes somewhere waiting to wipe out a Kali family of three, then we were 10 times safer than if we were walking around our own block at night. We never once even remotely have a problem.....anywhere, at anytime. Frickin politeness where ever we went

Point of this? I'm having trouble trying to figure out why this little punka$$ed kid in St. Pete would think it'd be a good idea to rob someone at gun point, given that Floridians are blessed with such lenient, easy, simple CCW laws? A similar analogy would be why I (as a 50 year old fugly white guy) drive into South Central at 0100 and try to steal a car?.....

Because, even in states like FL, fewer than 1% of the population chooses to exercise their Second Amendment rights.

Is Florida's liberal (in the Constitutional sense) carry law an effective deterrent to potential criminals? Not really. Most of them do not read or understand the law (or much care about it, for that matter). Most aren't smart enough to understand the consequences of their actions, nor do many of them possess the brain power to think it through.

Is carrying an effective counter-measure? Yes...for those few who choose to exercise their rights.

^ no wonder it didnt kill the kid....i was kinda shocked a .38 would be so forgiving after 4 shots, but now i understand
