That's actually a mauser... that did not deserve to have that done to it

That's what I thought from the bolt assembly ring on the stock.

Educate me: I thought only Mauser did that. Are there other rifles with that ring?

LATE EDIT: I did discover there was at least one variant of the Lee-Enfield which had a similar ring on the buttstock. So "never mind."

This was a Colt 1917 45 acp pistol converted to some kind of 221 Fireball or something I saw on Gunbroker a few years ago.

Made sense back when they were 20 dollar surplus guns, I guess.

When that photo first came out there was a lot of discussion and speculation as to it's validity. Looking at it objectively (apolitically) , It just does not look as thought the body of the shooter is experiencing recoil.
Shopped? I don't know ... Odd looking - yes.
