CZ-52 7.62x25mm penetration capability vs. Five-Seven/5.7x28mm

Everytime a thread on the FN Five-SeveN, and the 5.7x28mm round comes up, somebody brings up the CZ-52 and the 7.62x25mm, and cites that it has just as great of penetration through soft body armor using FMJ ammo as the 5.7mm has with SS190 (5.7 with SS190 can pierce up to level IIIA at 50 meters). This is usually followed by a snide remark that they'd rather have a dozen CZ-52s than one 5-7 or something to that effect. However, I've yet to see one objective test on the subject, or any definitive proof. Does anyone have any?

Can't help you with your question, but there a company out there making a new wildcat round where they take a 7.62x25 case, neck it down to .224, move the shoulder forward a little, and stick it in a CZ-52. Only required change to the gun is a drop in barrel. Supposedly gets 5-7 velocities with a 45gr bullet as opposed to the 27gr in the SS190 from teh same length barrel. Do search on .22 Reed Express. Gets you 5-7 performance and recoil in a CZ-52 package.

Well, it's pointless to compare 5.7x28 to new designs (like HK 4.6x30 or 4.73x33), as this 5.7mm system is 12-13 years old. Besides:

5.7 with SS190 can pierce up to level IIIA at 50 meters

SS190 can pierce modern vests up to 150m. THAT includes CRISAT - 1.6 mm Titanium+20 layers of kevlar. So this round has some potential. It is meaningless to better one over another as any of those are not unique and each one have been created to fill some slots, especially effective personal defence while keeping the weapons size as minimum as possible.

That 7.62x25 you refer to is the "dreaded" TT round? We had a small test here (as the TT was called a cop-killer) and, let's say, it wasn't up the reputation.

I just looked at the ballistics for the 40 grain V max from the Five-seven. Its 1650 fps for a total of 241 foot pounds and a power factor of 66. Needless to say I am totally underwellmed. I would not mind having one of these pistosl for small game hunting but the thought of having to use one to save my hide is scary. All it is is a 22mag from a rifle ballistically.
