FN Five seven is a cop killer gun...

I own a FN5 and this is what I can tell you.
It shoots very flat at distances to exceed 50 yards.
It returns to sight very quickly as the recoil is slight.
Ammo is more plentiful than one may think.
Flash and bang are pretty insignificant.
I like the weapon for the purposes it was designed for and believe most folks could use it better for self-defense than any we tout here. I do not care to be hit by anything and do not care what you miss me with.
With the rate of rire, number of rounds in one mag, the low recoil and accuracy of this weapon it could be devistating in the hands of anyone.
I like mine and it is an interchangable partner to my stailess Sig 220 .45 for a truck weapon.
Blessings

NOW HOW MUCH WOULD YOU PAY?!?
:D

I'm downloading this thing over dialup, so it had better be everything you mopes say it is. . . .

If these guns do indeed get up and kill LEO's all by themselves, then they should be banned. I don't want any gun in my collection that has autonomous, violent tendancies.

Think about it. What if the gun suddenly gurns on you and kills you? That would suck.

+1 on williamlayton, recoil does feel much like .22 (officially FN noted it to be 2/3 of 9mm), thus I personally can control the gun very easily and shoot it accurately enough. Heh  some people have thought it to be a toy gun, as it is mostly plastic, even slide, boy what a surprise if it really does shoot :what: . And weight, damn it's light, 750g with 20 rounds.
Besides, isn't it just beautiful?

Dumb Brady Bunch

The Brady Bunch claims FN markets this as a body-armor pierceing weapon. I have searched and searched the FN website and there is not one mention that this pistol penetrates body armor. Lies. Lies. Lies. If someone else can find it feel free to correct me.:cuss:

Exactly what I was thinking. IF CCW passes in Wisconsin, its safe to say I will carry something like a USP-T for a main carry gun, and why not have the five seven as a SHTF backup.. I could have 40 rounds of 5.7mm ammo, and 24 rounds of .45acp. I wonder if that would make me a walking arsenal, or a deadly assault person according to the brady campaign
Well if that does make you a walking arsenal then I'm already a freakin walking angel of black death with nuclear warheads strapped to his a$$ and "evil military style assault weapons" in each hand as far as they are concerned so I'll be sure to watch for them. Then again it might not be so bad if a brady bit#h did show up at my door so I could put my size 10 boot where they would'nt like it very much. A little re-education therapy.

Oh and by the way you can't even get any of the AP ss190 rounds unless you are a LEO only the ss192 hollowpoint and it's not like with Winchester Ranger T or Federal Tactical where you can legally have it as a civilian because it is only against company rules not to sell to civilians and not the law either. At least that the way I read it and also what I was told by bothe the regular FFL dealer and the Class 3 guy at my gunshop that I go to. I had a five seven on the counter ready to buy it and some other guns too and when I found that out I gave it back and got another new 3 rd gen Glock 22, a new Taurus m 627 DAO 7 shot .357 mag, and a new Bushmaster Carbon 15 type 97S pistol instead. With the hollowpoint ss192 rounds it is just an underpowered high cap mouse gun. Defeats the whole purpose if you can't get the ss190 and that purpose is not armor clad cops for "law abiding" citizens if there is such a thing, it is for armor clad bad guys and terrorists which evedence has PROVEN to be more and more common. I am tempted to get a five seven now though just cause the brady bit#hes hate it so much.

The ss192 rounds will go through a level 2 vest. The ss 196s will not from what I have seen.

Level 2a is not even rated to protect against large caliber pistol rounds as far as I know and even level 3a will not stop any high vel rifle round unless I am mistaken which is entirely possible. I read a post in the past that said the ss 192 would go through armor and the guy at the gun store said he tested personally and it would not even come close but he may well have meant level 3a that he was testing. I do know that FN claims the ss190 round will penetrate level 3 a though but not hard armor. I am not even sure if high vel rifle rounds will go through the bulky hard armor though. I know our troops have armor that will stop AK rounds so I assume that thats top of the line hard armor.

Dang it! Why do I get all the defective guns?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Not one of my firearms has EVER killed, or even injured a person! Never! My guns can't load themselves; they can't point themselves; they can't even fire themselves. I am convinced that if any gun is a "cop-killer", then dang it--I got all defective firearms! It must be a police conspiracy, becuase the police department inspected all of them. They must have traded the deadly ones for these worthless, defective guns.

On the other hand, I think that Taekwondo, Karate, Judo, swords, knives, sticks, rocks, alcohol, automobiles, planes, trains and even dogs could be potential cop-killers...be even suicide is a cop-killer. Is cancer a cop-killer? Maybe we should ban it? Is this rediculous? Sure, it's as nuts as calling ANY weapon a cop-killer.

I guess it's the person, not the weapon, huh?

Just my humble opinion,

Doc2005 :banghead:

after watching that... i need to get more slugs-
(and maybe a 5.7 just b4 they are no longer Ca legal)

If you live in Kalifornistan then as much as I hate to say this you are probably just throwing your money away buying guns at all because it's a matter of time before they come round a knockin to take them from you. I hope to god it never goes so far but the way it is in Kalifornistan it could happen very easily. Heck you already cant have a handgun with more than 10 rounds or an AR with an actual mag in it while everyone else in the free world (as in mostly red states) does. Must suck to be Kalifornistanian.

not only that, but the kommifornian masters know where all the guns are. it is inevitable they will come around some krystalnacht and round 'em up. matter of fact, they might as well round up the owners too, because they are clearly antisocial and psychotic - an obvious danger to their peace loving neighbors.

civilians can buy the fmj rounds, right? i'd be willing to be that a handloader could get the fmj to a high enough velocity that it would penetrate iiia without exceeding safe pressures.

When you say fmj rounds if you are talking about the AP ss190 rounds for the five seven thats a big no. I am not sure if any realoading stuff is out for 5.7 at all but I know civilians cant own the ss190 or any part of it. I was just doing some re-reading on the five seven and the ss190 round in "stopping power : a practical analysis of the latest handgun ammunition" Evan Marshall and Edwin Sanow's latest book and the follow up to "Handgun stopping power" and "street stoppers" (and before anyone starts screaming Marshallite or Facklerite let me just say that I don't take anything as ghospel when it comes to this type of thing because self defense scenario's and shootings themselves are such incredibly fluid things that there is no way to make any accurate prediction s or assumptions as to stopping power against a human target or anything else) and basically the ss190 is designed just like the ss109 round used in 5.56 ball ammo all over the world only instead of a steel penetrator core in front of a rear lead core with a jacket around it, it has a steel penetrator core in front of an aluminum rear core surrounded by a jacket and when fired in to gelatin it tumbles after impact just like the ss109 but unlike the ss109 ss190 does not break apart. It tumbles but remains in one piece. There is no lead in the ss190 round whatsoever. What it has going for it is great construction but I would not be suprised if any solidly built full metal jacket round made for loading in 5.7 wouldnt pierce armor at least almost as well as the ss190. Whether or not anything like that will ever be available to civilians I have no idea. Truth is the ss190 SHOULD be available but oh well. I bet that would really freak the brady bit#hes out eh. Thats always a good thing since they seem to get more and more stupid and just step all over themselves. The things they say are just so insane that anyone with any common sense at all can't listen to it for 5 minutes without pulling their hair out. Watching that clip of Fred and Barney Bull$???? made me want to puke.

well, i think most can agree that the 5.7's strong point is NOT tissue damage. the round was intended for penetration of body armor and intended to be used out of a select fire, pdw type weapon - the p90. its ability to penetrate when used with a handgun is also desirable as the whole package is intended to be used by entry teams who are likely to encounter armored perps. in such a case, it is desirable to have a backup that has similar capabilities to the primary with the exception of full auto. getting through the armor is the important part and when someone takes a five round burst to the thoracic cavity, even a poor performer like the 5.7 should be pretty effective. i can't really justify buying one because the likelihood that i'll encounter armored assailants is extremely low and tissue damage is more important. i do keep a rifle in the truck and i'm going to move over to an 11 1/2" barreled ar15 "pistol" soon. i don't have any aspirations to be a hero but if i find myself in the middle of a riot, i have a better chance of making it out with a long arm and if i happen to be at the scene of a north hollywood type event, i may be able to lend a hand. who knows when terrorists will decide to shoot up the food court? okay, i need to stop there; i'm sounding more and more like gecko45:uhoh:

I can't wait for the brady bunch to try n' ban baseball because baseball bats can crush police skulls.

Now, you younguns are too concerned about the what if's, IMO.
Most of the things we shoot will not penetrate a good piece of body armor.
99% of the BG do not wear body armor.
I am less concerned with body armor than I am of foot fungus.:)
I was looking for a .38 Super when I stumbled on this pistola, had never heard anything about it. Came home did some research and went and bought it.
It functions with flawless ease.
It is light.
Holds 20 rounds.
Made by a reputable company.
I, just me, personally like the funky trigger guard over the squared one.
It is ugly as a SIG, but then, I am not trying to sell it, just shoot it.
Ought to be able to get one around 1000 .
BTW, I got my .38Super-9x23 later, now I doan hafta worry about the body armor either.
Blessings

Midway has 5.7x28 RCBS loading dies for about $25.
I just ordered a set.
Now I have to find some brass.:)

M-2
Keep me in mind when you reload this thing. I have thought about it but read some things that have given me second thoughts. mostly concerning the brass.
Let me know your thoughts and opinions after doing it, please.
Blessings

OK.
I bought the gun to reload for it. I thought it would be an interesting round to experiment with.

After seeing that video I want to buy one.
Sort of ironic, considering the Brady Campain made that movie to get rid of the gun.
