Walt .... just because someone has compared a TT-33 to a Tok ... back to my original question. Why say one pistol is "better" than the other? They are different guns.

A TT-33 vs. a CZ-52 -- two different guns designed for the same military role. The SAME REASON people often compare the Makarov and the CZ-82.

You seen to feel that we should only compare guns made by the same manufacturer or clones of those guns -- i.e., guns which are generally of the same design. What if you want to use the round, but want to find the BEST delivery mechanism?

You seem to be straining with something that isn't that heavy.

The CZ-82 is truly a great little pistol!...
Have owned several and they are ALL flawless shoots and feel great in the hand.
Though they are called 'Makarovs' they are NOT... and as Walt has said 'they are two completely different pistols'...
Tho they look similar and both shoot 9mm Mak ammo, they are different guns.
If you can get one in good condition for about $250, as they say "Jump On It"... you won't be disappointed!!

Being double stack, the CZ-82/83 is wider, so why it is a "little" pistol, the slimmer Makarov may be easier to carry concealed. I do conceal a Mak sometimes, and it is very easy. They have a lot less parts than the CZ-82 as well.

I like the CZ-82/83 a lot however, and if you are looking for an inexpensive, yet quality pistol, it is hard to beat them.

Walt .... just because someone has compared a TT-33 to a Tok ... back to my original question. Why say one pistol is "better" than the other? They are different guns.

Because they fill similar roles and the "family" of similar guns is smaller.

IE, if you're talking about 7.62x25 Tok guns then you are basically talking about the CZ-52 or some variant of the Tokarev.

If you're talking about 9mm Makarov guns they you are likely talking about either the CZ-82 or the Makarov (and to a lesser extent the P-64 or P-83).

Its a small sampling and its easy to make a comparison. Now consider how many 9x19mm handguns there are on the market. There's too many options out there for an automatic comparison to be made.

On the flip side, if you start talking about 12 ga pump shotguns people will almost immediately go into comparing the Remington 870 to the Mossberg 500.

Buy it, it's a CZ82.

Excellent gun, excellent factory trigger, well designed, high capacity, decent SD caliber.

$250 with ammo at todays prices is a great deal if it's as described.

With a C&R license, with shipping, the best I can find is a the gun, probably abused, with 1 mag for $280+$20 shipping.

Mags are $30+. I believe they share the same mags as the CZ83, which is .380.

There are some minor drawbacks, such as the factory finish is a paint that does chip off and the grips are a fragile plastic which shatters easily I've read.

But lots of people dress their CZ82s up in nice resin grips for around $20, or wood crips for around $80. And you can duracoat or get another coating on it. You could really style up this pistol for under $500 if you are the type that wants an beautiful personalized pistol.

I came into a few thousand rounds of 9x18 last year for $100.
When I went shopping for a pistol that shoots it, I couldn't find a cz82 for under $300.
Jump on that gun if you haven't already, its a great buy.

If it's an 83, it could be either 380 or 32 ACP. If it's 32 ACP, the slide will be marked "7.65 Browning" on the slide. It also came in 9x18, but those weren't sent to the US at all, IIRC. I also believe that the 380 and 32 versions have standard rifling, not polygonal rifling.

I've got a CZ-82 and the only downside I've found is the expense of extra mags. They're usually in the $40+ range. That's why I only have two mags at the moment. Love the gun. It's extremely accurate. I'd jump on it.

Matt
I did not know they made them in 32....I would love to find one of those.

I'm repeating something already written: the CZ-82 was made only in 9x18 (9mm Makarov). The CZ-83 was made in .32 acp, 9x18, and .380. CZ stopped importing the 9x18 version a few years ago, and probably stopped importing the .32 version before that. Most of the CZ-83s you'll find are .380 -- but there are other calibers out there.

Been a few weeks. Hope you bought that CZ 82. I picked mine up earlier this year for $250 with one mag, not four. Accurate shooter. Reliable. Built like a tank. My favorite pistol.

Many people (myself included) consider the Česká Zbrojovka vzor 82 (the pistol about which you're asking) to be the absolute Cadillac of 9x18 "Makarov"s. If I could pick up another one (I have two) for $250, I'd be on it like white on rice. ;)
