LOL but that works for me too. Excellent post btw and I agree that I want that CZ in the 6.5G too!

But, now that you mention it, I want to neck down my 7.62x39 to 7mm and see what happens. LOL. Good bullet weight selection, better BC and SD. Possibly an ideal deer rifle for light framed shooters.
You'll gain a little velocity and reach, I've rolled it over for awhile too as I like overbores a bit more than I probably should. A 7mm does everything with a 120 gr a .308 does with a 150gr so with the right load (using Loonwulf velocity to extrapolate) we could theorize that since the .308 spawn 6.5&7mm can share velocity of 3000 with the 120, then a 120 7x39mm should be capable of the 2500 ish as well. In velocity at yards and energy we now have a 200 yd ballistic tip flying 2100+ carrying 1100+ ft-lbs of energy.......in short sir, you have struck ballistic gold in the x39 game. Patent it and make some money will ya!? It'd be cool to have a matching cz in each cartridge for all 3 of my kids to practice with and around here & the Grendel and 7mm would both be acceptable deer rounds too! Mind you if you do attempt it, I'd want enough throat to run a coal AT LEAST 2.293" for those long pills and please do proceed with caution as we don't need you blowing your face off with this little experiment.

http://pacifictoolandgauge.com/7mm-75mm-nopix-showcart-/4434-7mm-ppc-no-turn-reamer.html DAT ONE!

I have a 7mm fetish, I attend meetings, Id build it if i could. 120 balistic tip would be neat.

As it stands tho with Grendel ammo available i think thats as close to a high performance x39 as ill get.
I hope they have powder and bullets at those meetings instead of coffee and cookies, so what you're saying is, we need 2 czs, one in Grendel and one to be fitted with the reamed ppc tube??? The case forming should be easy, just neck up the Grendel.......

Well theres usually some of each, they go quickly tho.

we could go with just the action, nice pacnor barrel of medium taper 20-22" in length....magazines how long a CZ?

The cz 550 comes in .22-250, that Mag should be long enough.

ETA I hope newtosavage is paying us for all this brainpower groundwork we're putting in here......;)

I was gonna try jedi mind trick him into building it, thatll work right?

Honestly tho as much as id love a 7mm ppc (or 7 benchrest), on a mini mauser action, i think i will buy one of these grendels.

Won't get any roasting from me. Actually I believe the .243 makes more sense for a light bolt action than the 6.5 Grendel.
That's not even close. The Grendel was designed (poorly) to fit in the AR action. In a larger action, it's just an odd cripple of a cartridge.

Then, in 10-14 years, your offspring can attend 6.5 meetings next door to the 7mm guys

Can all of you anti-Grendel guys please go start your own thread. It's rude to come in here and troll this thread because you don't think the Grendel makes sense. We get it, you don't want it, so don't buy it or waste your time reading about it.

Are you all this rude in real life? If someone buys a car you don't like do you spend half an hour telling them why their choice doesn't make sense

Pretty much the same reason I wound up with one of yours. I have enjoyed the 7mm BR for decades, even started down the path to build a rifle so chambered and wound up down loading a 7-08.

They are not miles apart from one another and I have busted my fair share of game with the 7mm BR.

Interesting series.

I'm surprised someone hasn't pointed out that the CZ mini-Mauser rifle is considerably lighter than the typical rifle chambered in the more powerful 6.5's. I'm a joy to carry a mini-Mauser through the woods. Regardless of the chamber, the CZ 527 is loads of fun.

IMO the 7BR is a better choice, more capacity and stronger case. Can use lapua BR cases.
The issue with these is reload only but while you are at it I think at least make it easy to own and reload cat.
I fear that if you are itching with a new wilcat bug then it will be hard to resist.

What about the 6.5BR or 7mm Gunner? ....

6.5BR is perfect for the AR and also a Remington 700 with AR bottom mag or any other
mini action that provides a .473 (308) bolt face. It takes off with the 123gr bullets where the LBC/grendel struggle a little.

7mm Gunner using a 284 case (short) as donor and a more civilized shoulder for helping with autoloaders.
Works great in the AR15 6.8, grendel and 7.62x39 mags up to 5-6 rounds. Performance
very close to 7mm-08 for bullets up to 150gr.
I designed this one. A bit more involved. Also nice option for the AR or a mini action if that is desired.

ughh....you had to post that now didnt you.....simple opening of the bolt face, and rechambering of the barrel to the BR cartridge would likely work on a grendel CZ no?
Wait no, the BR case is shorter if i remeber correctly. I like the look of the 7 Gunner, maybe in a model 7 action, which i happen to have a friend who has one......

Heck, I have a Howa Mini in .223. Haven't weighed it but I'm sure it's around 7 lbs. with a 3x9 scope. It seems to me a Grendal CZ would be a hot seller because it's a mini action. I don't know how many mini actions Howa is selling but it has to be a substantial number or CZ wouldn't have jumped in. You guys can kick the cartridge around all you want but it makes a nice light rifle for deer and hogs. If I were hunting those I would seriously consider one because it appears to be (for me anyway) a pretty big hit. When you consider an AR can chamber it this cartridge is goings places amigos.

Nothing rude's been said here. The technical deficiencies of the 6.5 Grendel are simply something those considering buying one should be aware of.

In a mini bolt action, the 6mm BR, Dasher etc. are far superior both for punching paper and medium game hunting. In an AR the 6x45 has superior performance the the lowly 5.56 about matches it. Combine that with the fact that the CZ action is way overweight (you can easily buy a .243 that weighs a pound less less for about the same price), and the Grendel's in familiar territory - bad at everything it does :D

Openning that much should be easy for an experienced machinist.
But with other popular actions being cheaper and ready to go is it worth the mini action plus machine time investment?
We are talking about insignificant savings in size and weight.

I'm not anti-Grendel. Actually I like the 6.5 G quite a bit, just not in a bolt.

Depends on if I like them or not. If not, no ... couldn't care less. Why put yourself out there? :)

It's actually a little better to get people BEFORE they make the mistake though and as far as I know no one here actually has one.

Besides, I was thinking that we were just talking about the product, in this case the topic of discussion is this CZ 6.5 Grendel rifle. That involves the good as well as the bad. The perceived need for this rifle and perhaps some other rifle that might fill that perceived need a bit better.

I wasn't looking to totally dump on it, just say what I thought and that was gonna be it.

This guy owes me some pinesol.

Actually, if you want a 6.5 in a light gun that can perform at distance, go to Tikka in the 6.5 X 55mm Swedish Mauser. Using a 140 grain Sierra GameKing with a muzzle velocity of approximately 2750 fps, you still have well over 1100 ft. lbs. of energy at 500 yards. The Tikka T3 lite isn't called that because it's a beast to carry, and that load in that gun won't pound your shoulder either.

Thats true, im not really sure why the mini actions interest me so much, but they do lol.

I understand. I think the 7.62x39 is sexy in a small bolt action. If someone has the LBC/grendel then that also makes a lot of sense to have in a small bolt action.
I think they should make it for the 6.8spcII as well and to take AR magazines.

What is the situation with the MVPs? Do they take other bolts faces/diameters or that is not even an option?
I don't really like the smaller shank but it should work fine anyway.

Ive handled the MVPs but not enough to know if they could be opened to take other rounds. Actually, if i remember correctly ive seen (on the webs) .458 mvps.
