My youngest daughter, 8 years old, was expelled from school. Her crime? Not doing a class assignment. Here's where it real good. The assignment was what kind of firearms are in your home and WHERE ARE THEY KEPT? My daughter told the teacher that was private information. Daughter was told to do it or be expelled. She took expulsion. I went to the school and met with the principal. We then had the teacher come down to explain her actions. The teacher went into a rant saying weapons were evil, that people who owned them were evil. She then said the assignments that had been completed(several others refused or turned in blank papers:D) were turned over to the police so that when the next president is in office, they'll order the complete seizure of all firearms! Even the principal was shocked at her attitude. He told me my daughter could come back to school in a different class. Right now, I'm considering all my options for her education. Is this the new norm in schools or is this out of the ordinary?

this sounds interesting, I'd not let it go at that. I remember having a teacher in HS when we were required to write a paper discribing what we would need to do in a wilderness/survival situation telling us that guns were never necessary:scrutiny:

Are you making this up? Is that seriously what the teacher said?

If the principal was also shocked then I'd say the teacher seems to be, as we said in the Marines, "on her own program"

I would contact a lawyer to determine if the indoctrinator's actions are legally actionable. My son has been told that under no circumsctances is he to discuss firearms with anyone at school, and if he is asked "What did your Daddy tell you not to tell us?", (the old Art Linkletter line), he says, "None of your business."

This level of gun-hatred by teachers *is* unusual. Most teachers are vaguely anti-gun, not strongly anti-gun. Many teachers are pro-gun.

Get with the principal while he's still "shocked".

Get with other parents, too. Demand resignation, don't stop 'till you get it. Contact newspapers, too. Splash this all over, get the community involved.

Sadly, it is the new norm. Brainwashing has replaced education in most areas. If you can afford it, private schools (if you choose carefully) might be a better option.

I'd write a formal letter of complaint to someone if the Principal is not taking action...reason number 863 why I need to homeschool my girls when they're old enough.

The actions and attitude of this teacher leave me sad, angry, and confused. I homeschool my oldest stepdaughter because of the enviornment in today's government schools. I told her I would teach her to shoot as part of a science class and she became very interested, realizing that she would be able to defend herself if necessary.

I do not know where in MI you are but many people here need to know what school and I would love to know the teachers name. My brother has kids in school in MI.

Ask the {ahem} "Teecher" is she is willing to put up LARGE "Gun-Free-Home" signs in her front and back yards.

I would be making a huge stink with the 'skool bord', the local press if they are not this far left-leaning and whatever the Teacher Licensing Authority is called in your state.

I would also be doing anything legal I could to see that this "teecher" gets expelled [read as fired] from the school. "Teechers" have ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT to inflict their personal views on students.

Did you get that rant on tape? One of those small 'digital pocket recorders' is a good thing to have. I used to tape all my conversations with 'Skool O-fish-ulls.' Always took in my briefcase with cassette recorder....Amazing how many times those o-fish-ulls tried to weasel out of things that were said....Like the one that said my middle child was retarded, and would never get past the 5th grade

Hmmmmm is it too obvious that I am not a fan of the current Publik Leftist Indoctrination Centers ....... ahhhhhh public schools?

Keep tabs on criminal activity in your school district. If some gun-owner's home gets 'burgled'...I would do all I could again to place the liability DIRECTLY on the "Teecher who compiled that list of firearms owners. I would be darn near willing to wager large amounts that the Police are NOT the only ones with that list.

If you haven't done so already, post this on the forum of your local 'carry' forum. The (permit to) carry crowd is very well connected with the 'right' lawyers, activists, local politicians et all to accomplish what you need to get done.

Imagine if the assignment were "where are the illegal drugs in your house" the ACLU would be in a screaming frenzy ... we should do no less.

I would be proud.

As for the teacher, I'd go with what everyone else has said - contact the school board, media, etc. and make this huge. That teacher does not deserve to have a job in the public school system.

First, congratulations to your daughter! She did well. Get her something nice in the .22 arena, or something with a little more "bang" as a reward.

Second, while you have the Principal in the "shock" set, press for this "instructor's" resignation and/or outright dismissal or you will be filing charges of harassment.

Glad to see the administration is pretty good.

The gun issue aside, teachers do not have the power to expel students. Administrators may suspend with cause, but actual expulsion is usually a matter for school boards to address. This teacher is a real kook and needs to be expelled herself.

For what its worth, when our school has our campouts I usually take several students plinking with their parents permission. For many of them it is their first experience with a firearm.

it takes 863 reasons as to WHY you should homeschool.....:)

I only need 1....because I can..... :) :)

Another reason to have her fired (especially if the Principal is anti gun): She put the lives of all the children at risk. Find out WHERE THE GUNS ARE KEPT?!? Usually responsible parents keep their guns locked up, hidden from the kids, or about their person. Now if some of the gun owning parents were not responsible and had not taught their children about gun safety, those kids now know where the guns are and could hurt themselves or others with them.

If you don't teach your kids about guns, they will be curious and it can turn bad really quick. That teacher should be fired for putting the kids and parents in that situation (most likely without the parent's knowledge as well).

This story really doesn't pass the sniff test. I've never seen a public school in which a teacher had the power to expell a student. Expulsion is a severe form of action and requires approval from administration. There is also normally (if not always) parental notification and an appeals process.

Unless you've got a teacher who's completely unhinged and "expelling" students on her own (in which case she won't be a teacher much longer), this sounds either massively embelished or made-up entirely.

get ahold of every other parent who has had a kid in one of her classes, or at least all your daughter's peer's parents and let them know exactly what she did, and I agree, do everything in your power to make sure she never teachs again, at least not in your area.
I almost wonder if she could be liable for a lawsuit, you know anti's of her nature seem to love trying to sue manufacturers and anyone else they can, it'd be a hoot to use the courts against one of them, remind them that the Government and Legal system is not their private plaything.

good luck and keep us up to date.

That teacher needs to lose her job.

Imagine what other things she is teaching them. Subtly or not.........

I am spitting mad just thinking about this.

There is no way that a second grader would be expelled for not doing one assignment. It is hard enough to get a kid expelled for fighting.

When you have been around as many teachers as I have, in some really liberal areas, you'll realize that they aren't all anti-gun elites. By being around I mean close personal friends, not walking by a school once or reading an internet message board.

That is absolutely unacceptable behavior.

There is NO excuse for the teacher still having his/her job.

If I were you I'd be calling, writing, and having conversations with the principle, the school board, and every parent who would sympathize with me to try and get them to do the same.

After that I'd call up the NRA and see if I could get the pressure turned up a few magnitudes by giving the school a little publicity as the "outrage of the week".

... though this whole story does seem a bit fishy...

We had a similar if less dramatic incident right here in good old pro gun Montana with one of our kids. A high school teacher assigned them to count how many guns were in their house and report the number back to him. Naturally the assignment was not completed, but without negative results. :fire::fire:

I think the teacher thought she had the power to expell or wanted the kids to think she does. All sane adults know a teacher can't expell a student on their own she thought the kids would not be aware. She was trying to pressure the students into doing her stupid stunt. Well she found out this doen't work with well grounded kids.
The Principal tried to quickly defuse the situation as he is somewhat sane. The Principal now knows the teacher is unhinged.
Any paperwork turned in to PD should be retrieved and given back to the student, pronto.
Get a cheap lawyer you don't need the dream team. I use Big Ed the Bulldog. Cheap effective. This is an easy deal.
You want this teacher fired end of story don't settle for less. :)
