i got some money set aside (almost $1500) and i am thinking about my next purchase. i have a hard time deciding and thought i'd get some input from you guys.

what i currently have:

glock 35 (fullsize in .40)
hk usp (fullsize in .40)
springfield 1911 .45
ruger mark iii .22
ruger sp101 .357
winchester 1300 defender 12 ga.

the four options i am considering:

a) i purchased an off-list AR lower recently (i'm in california) in the hopes the DOJ will put it on the list, let me register it, so I can then build it up to a full M4gery and use it for 3-gun competition and target practice.

this option is somewhat speculative, depends on how things develop legally, and could take months or maybe never happen at all.

if it did happen, i would buy a nice AR rifle kit from del-ton with the money.

b) i could purchase a kel-tec su16 and use it for 3-gun competition for now. since they are cheap, i am also considering buying a walther g22 rifle for plain fun and plinking since i do not have a .22 rifle yet, which of course is a staple in any collection.

c) i could purchase another handgun. i have my eye on a sig but have a hard time deciding between the fullsize 226 and the more compact 229, as well as whether to get one in 9mm or in .40.

both feel very comfortable in my hand. on one hand i am considering the 226 in .40 to stay with the theme of what i got, on the other hand i am thinking about getting the 229 in 9mm instead because i don't have a 9mm yet, neither do i have a compact semiauto, and it is cheaper to shoot.

i am not really interested in another polymer gun such as the p99 or xd-40 since i already got the usp and glock. i hear nothing but good things about the sigs and would really like to add one to my collection.

d) not buy anything and keep my money for now

the main use for any of these guns would be fun/plinking, target practice, and/or competition shooting. ccw is not a factor right now since i'm in metropolitan CA.

so, given these parameters, what are your thoughts?

I notice a lack of any large caliber mags. I am not sure what you can have in CA but if you can own one I would suggest the Ruger .44mag Superblackhawk Hunter. It is a beautiful weapon and unbelievably accurate. Alot of fun to plink with. If you want something super cool try and find a Ruger .454casull Super Redhawk Alaskan. I am drooling over this one but have not been able to find one yet. You would drop some jaws at the range with that one.

I can't comment on the 3-gun options, since I don't know anything about it. However, I have a Sig P-226 (in 9mm) and they're great guns. I doubt you would ever regret getting one.

For fun/plinking, have you considered a .357 Lever Action as a companion to your SP101? Lots of .38 plinking fun, and you'd still have plenty left over for another something. Just a thought to try to add to the confusion. :neener: Also, you definitely need a .22 rifle of some kind CZ/Ruger/Marlin etc. whatever feels right.

I think you can have at least 2 guns and plenty of money left over for ammo with $1500.00.

If you want to try a 9mm, you might want to check out the Browning HP...currently about $700 on the nose, here in NJ. I've had one of these for almost 2 decades now with never a problem to report. As for the .22 rifle, a henry is one of the slickest action lever style guns you'll ever hold, and you can get the basic round barrel design for about $200, or an octagon for about $500.

In any case if you were to get the most expensive Henry AND the Browning, you'd still have like $300 left over for ammo, and if you get the lesser expensive Henry you'd have nearly $600 toward the purchase of a third gun.

Hope you have (safe) fun with whatever you choose & good luck to you.

I am not up on California laws but how about a M1 Garand
For a SIG P220ST is a nice piece or the P226 Blackwater

thanx for the input so far. i checked out all the recommendations you made and i can see why, though it proved that everybody has vastly different taste and preferences ;)

after going too boring/too big/too bling/too whatever i think i'm gonna go with the sig 229 in 9mm and if i can squeeze it in, also the walther g22.

Sounds like a good decision. Isn't THR great? If you ask about an AR-15 , you get opinions on everything from .22 to 45/70, and why you need one.:D I'm as guilty as anyone of the "recommendation drift", but I'm glad you made a decision you'll be happy with.
