In every video where this gun is shot, they seldom show a target being hit, I've seen a pumpkin hit at point-blank range and what looks like some sort of white wall or perhaps a sheet of styrofoam at about 3 feet.
It's also odd that in every video the different YouTubers make the point that you can get it through the mail and that you don't have to go through an FFL.
What market or demographic are they going for? Certainly not knowledgable gun owners or black powder shooters who know you don't have to go through an FFL in most states to buy a black powder firearm. Then they show it go boom without hitting anything at a useful range.
I think at this point in time the company basically wants to establish that this model is actually available after a lot of bad feedback from people who ordered one and waited a long time but didn't received theirs due to slow initial start up of production.
One person on thefiringline received his at the end of August after waiting for 32 weeks.
Some others cancelled their orders after waiting for a long time which may have scared away some customers.
The company did provide prompt refunds when requested after they got tired of waiting.
Now the company probably needs to attract some attention to the fact that a production run of some guns has been completed.
And these videos are probably the result of those efforts.
Personally I'm glad that they look as good as they do and seem to function well and are as advertised.
This does not seem to primarily be a hunting weapon unless someone really wants it to be.
Any experienced black powder shooter should realize that and see that its a fun gun that may be better suited for self defense, plinking and/or close range target shooting.
Such short barrels without a choke constriction will limit its range when loaded with shot.
It would be up to the shooter to figure out to tighten up the pattern and increase its effectiveness.
Large patched round balls can also be very effective if used to hunt game with.
There's a lot of different testing that could be helpful to entice people to buy one.
Velocity & accuracy testing, using plastic wads, trying out various slugs, bullets or buckshot are all options that one can only imagine the results.
Give it some time for more people to get their hands on one and are able to figure out how to maximize its effectiveness.
After all it's a brand new model that hasn't been available for very long.
With 6 inch smooth bore barrels what do folks really expect?
I remember the Cobray .45 black powder Derringers that were made in either a one barrel or two barrel configuration.
I would generally not expect it to be used for hunting but more for personal defense as a pocket pistol.
I suppose that a person could shoot a deer or game with it if legal, so to each their own.
Here's the Cobray break action with a .451 rifled barrel, a sliding safety button, a removable breech plug, with the latest version at that time using a 209 primer.
