THE CHAIR IS AGAINST THE WALL
I've heard a rumor floating around lately that Dubya put through a new Executive Order further restricting the importation of EBR's and standard capacity magazines from other countries.

I can't seem to verify it, but I've heard it from enough people to make me wonder.

So, anyone else heard this as well? If so, is it true, and where can I verify it.

I don't think so. Something that big would be big news around here, and I think we would have heard more about it. I know that the antis won recently within the past couple years to outlaw the importation of standard capacity magazines, but that was a regular law not an executive order.

No they did not. There was an amendment to the 1999 bill on firearms shortly after the Columbine incident. I know because I watched the debate on the Senate floor with Feinstein whining and wailing that importation of standard capacity mags that were manafactured BEFORE the 94 cutoff was some sort of loophole. The amendment was filibustered and it lost. There was another bill brought up, but it was against filibustered.

No, but I seem to have heard something about the ATF tightening regs on the import of "assault weapon" recievers capable of accepting normal-capacity mags, creating the current dearth of cheap double-stack AK's that aren't dremeled single-stack Romaks on the market today.

Mind you, this is strictly hearsay...

Can the ATF just do things like that whenever they feel like it? What limits do they have to live up to when allowing imports? For example, could they just outright ban the importing of all firearms if they felt like it?

I don't know for sure, but it seems they do have alot of leeway. Isn't it an BATF reg which prohibits the sale or importation of demil'd M-14 receivers, importation of Chinese AK's, etc.? Yet the FTC cannot institute a voluntary do-not-call list?
