I'm a little worried about the last one.

THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 29, 2013

FACT SHEET: New Executive Actions to Reduce Gun Violence

Today, the Obama administration announced two new common-sense executive actions to keep the most dangerous firearms out of the wrong hands and ban almost all re-imports of military surplus firearms to private entities. These executive actions build on the 23 executive actions that the Vice President recommended as part of the comprehensive gun violence reduction plan and the President unveiled on January 16, 2013.

Even as Congress fails to act on common-sense proposals, like expanding criminal background checks and making gun trafficking a federal crime, the President and Vice President remain committed to using all the tools in their power to make progress toward reducing gun violence.

Building on the 23 Executive Actions the President and Vice President Unveiled Last January
· Last December, the President asked the Vice President to develop a series of recommendations to reduce gun violence. On January 16, 2013, they released these proposals, including 23 executive actions. With the first Senate confirmation of an ATF Director on July 31, 2013, the Administration has completed or made significant progress on 22 of the 23 executive actions. The new executive actions unveiled today build on this successful effort.

Closing a Loophole to Keep Some of the Most Dangerous Guns Out of the Wrong Hands
· Current law places special restrictions on many of the most dangerous weapons, such as machine guns and short-barreled shotguns. These weapons must be registered, and in order to lawfully possess them, a prospective buyer must undergo a fingerprint-based background check.
· However, felons, domestic abusers, and others prohibited from having guns can easily evade the required background check and gain access to machine guns or other particularly dangerous weapons by registering the weapon to a trust or corporation. At present, when the weapon is registered to a trust or corporation, no background check is run. ATF reports that last year alone, it received more than 39,000 requests for transfers of these restricted firearms to trusts or corporations.
· Today, ATF is issuing a new proposed regulation to close this loophole. The proposed rule requires individuals associated with trusts or corporations that acquire these types of weapons to undergo background checks, just as these individuals would if the weapons were registered to them individually. By closing this loophole, the regulation will ensure that machine guns and other particularly dangerous weapons do not end up in the wrong hands.

Keeping Surplus Military Weapons Off Our Streets
· When the United States provides military firearms to its allies, either as direct commercial sales or through the foreign military sales or military assistance programs, those firearms may not be imported back into the United States without U.S. government approval. Since 2005, the U.S. Government has authorized requests to reimport more than 250,000 of these firearms.
· Today, the Administration is announcing a new policy of denying requests to bring military-grade firearms back into the United States to private entities, with only a few exceptions such as for museums. This new policy will help keep military-grade firearms off our streets.

I find it interesting the our government seems to trust foreign military forces with these "Military grade" weapons but not its own citizens.

At least I get to keep driving my military grade truck.

I wish Obama would get some military grade proof before he starts bombing Syria for a gas attack they may not have actually authorized.

I wonder if the president has a military grade teleprompter.

My guess is that his big donors will kill this one quick.

I would love to see the statistics on how many murders were committed with M1 garands and 1903 rifles. This has to be the stupidest and useless EO I have ever seen and it will only hurt the shooting sports funded by the CMP.

Where does CMP get there guns?

Nowhere anymore apparently.

Thank you for the early update The Teacher.

The new initiative does nothing to prevent another Sandy Hook or an Aurora Theater. To the overwhelming majority of gun owners it is all bark and no bite. Let the executive branch pat itself on the back, and let's not panic again.

The changes they want to make to the NFA would mean those using a trust would need to submit fingerprints and photos. And that those not using a trust won't need the CLEO to sign off on it. It's actually a win for us.

What firearms will the reimport ban affect? I'm assuming the type available through the CMP would be affected. How many of these firearms are used in the commission of a crime? It would be nice if these idiots would use facts when legislating. More feel good B.S. This is purely Obama waging war on law abiding gun owners and further infringement on a constitutional right.

Yup...lets arm the Syrian rebels...the same guys who are out there cannibalizing their enemies. The same guys who are just as likely to turn the guns we give them against us....just like the Iranians, just like the Afghans. But let's dare not let American citizens own anything like that.

More of their divide and conquer. Fingerprints and photos are harassment plain and simple, especially considering how bent out of shape they are about "voter ID" laws in various states.

Anything this administration can do to take something away from gun owners, they will. They feel like they have something to prove. They have egg on their face after the AWB debacle, so they are honestly out to get anything they can to save face.

Plus they know that people like us, law abiding conservative Americans for the most part, will never vote for them or their kind so it doesn't really hurt their political base.

Note: This does not impact the CMP rifles. The CMP is not a "private entity" (it was created by Congress), and the CMP does not import it's rifles anyways, they are received in-country from the U.S. Army.

Executive Order Bans Re-importation Of Guns Given To Other Countries

We already knew about the NFA trust changes but today Obama announced an executive order to stop guns sold or donated to other countries from being re-imported into the country, like all those Garands sitting over in South Korea.

One new policy will end a government practice that lets military weapons, sold or donated by the U.S. to allies, be reimported into the U.S. by private entities, where some may end up on the streets. The White House said the U.S. has approved 250,000 of those guns to be reimported since 2005; under the new policy, only museums and a few other entities like the government will be eligible to reimport military-grade firearms.

Yeah that should stop gun violence - not!

Boy oh boy. The ignorance and arrogance of this administration is truly Amazing. Proof positive that there is absolutely no limit on stupidity! Or arrogance, which typically goes hand in hand with ignorance.

Tell me when its over,

they -have- been getting them from foreign government returns

If there will be no more such returns, CMP will cease to be once they exhaust their current inventory.

Yes, I know they don't "import" directly, they get them from the Army. But the Army gets them from foreign returns.

One way or the other, Mr Sorento wants to put them out of business.
