Did the SHTF really happen?

I think the the journalist's addage, "If it bleeds it leads" was in effect, but we shouldn't ignore the wakeup call to all of us. Violence isn't as big an issue in a major disaster as dealing with the air/water/food/shelter issues. Having a plan that goes beyond the halfwit, "I'll just shoot the #*&&()ers" is essential for us to have learned. Canned goods aren't sexy. We can't fondle the water supply. You can't get together with your buddys and compare how you each did at collecting/protecting all your essential documents/information. Sorting and sealing and storing supplies is tedious. BUT it's essential if you don't want to be just another looser stranded waiting for someone to come and pull you out of the ????e that just hit the fan.

Considering that some folks go without power for weeks at a time every year, or go through weather that people in other parts of the country would consider extreme, you would think that something as simple as keeping sufficient supplies on hand to live as close to normal as possible for a couple weeks or more would be an accepted part of life.

Preparing for most bad stuff is not that big of a deal, practically everyone on this forum has prepared to deal with criminals using their firearms, planning food and water storage is easy, so is having first aid supplies and clothing appropriate for the outdoors and local weather extremes.

The really bad stuff, the low order of probability scenarios that seem to get the most attention, can also be planned for and dealt with, but take care of the likely stuff first.

Had I lived in NO I would rather have thrown all my belongings into a U-Haul trailer and left several days early, possibly selling anything difficult to take with me that would be damaged or destroyed if I left it behind. Better than hoping the insurance company will pay for everything and someone will come by to save me if I have any problems.

"How much more can the S H T F?
Whaddayawant? mutant radioactive brain-munching zombies?"

NO had those before the storm.

i would guess that a lot of murder and violent assault did occur. the news media is whitewashing the whole thing in the interest of "public security" the truth will never be reported, but then, it never is.

it is not in the interest of a "well regulated media" to make a government look bad. if they did, they would never get their "assault cameras" in the next time.
