Party pooper here

As a kid, I never paid much attention to TV characters' weapons, more the characters themselves. As an adult, TV and movie characters have never influenced my buying decisions.

Alan, Joe Mannix carried a snubby, don't know the model. I just remember in the intro seeing him dive out of his Toronado convertible, roll on the pavement and nail a bad guy with one shot at some impressive distance.
I remember it being a black snubbie. I just don't know if it was a Colt or a S&W. I was in my pre-teens back then and didn't know too much about guns.

We did not have a TV until I was 8. I did not watch very much growing up. Idont watch it now hardly

You need one more choice: My hero carried a rifle! Chuck Conners carried a Winchester rifle in the Rifleman!

Encore Western has two episodes on each night (on Dish Network). I Tivo it and watch it when I can. I'm still jealous of Mark for having a gun totin' dad and he got to ride horses!

I carry either a Glock 36 or 27 (oh the horror, can't believe it hasn't blown my leg off yet), or a revolver of some sort S&W 36 or Mod 65, and sometimes a Kel-Tec P3AT

I lived in the sticks and we only got 2 channels on a TV we where not allowed to touch. I grew up with Superman, Batman, and Sgt. Rock comic books. My all time hero was the red headed professor in Sgt Rock who would shoot snipers out of trees while reading a book. I think he had a Thompson most of the time, so no.

Daniel Boone: I don't have a flintlock, don't think I have the patience to go through the loading process for each shot. But somehow I keep being drawn to a flint lock. Cap locks don't catch my intrest. If I get a muzzle loader it will be a flint lock.

Your poll doesn't give me an option. I loved old war movies most of all, and they had Thompsons. I coveted them mightily. My family was neutral / anti gun, so I didn't know much about them until I moved out. By then I wanted a snubbie, mostly because it was easy to conceal.

But my answer would be no. "Chip Saunders" carried a Thompson.

My Dad (our family name is Sanders) wouldn't let us watch COMBAT! Just because they spelled the guys last name with a "u" in it. Least ways that is what he told us. Now that I am old as he was then it was most likely due to the fact that us three boys were on the ragged edge with the violence anyway and didn't need anymore eggin on. :D

They had Colt SAAs in western holsters. Texas has no open carry laws. And, I think I got my appreciation for the sexy looks of the M1 Carbine from the Lieutenant on "Combat". :D Can't remember his name. I liked the Carbine better than Saunders' Thompson, though, for some reason. I think it was the stock. It looked like a normal rifle. :D

If we get open carry some day (fat chance), maybe I'll have a buscadero rig made up for the Blackhawk with a chess knight on it. :D

Lessee...I guess as a kid, my only gun-toting TV hero was "Sledge Hammer." Luckily I did/do NOT emulate him! :what: :p

Actually, with what little I had to choose from, I loved "MacGyver" as a kid. I'm just glad the anti-gun-ness of the actor and character didn't rub off on me!

Later on, in my teens, I discovered the James Bond films. My first autopistol was a Bersa Thunder .380, a reasonably priced "clone" of Bond's Walther PPK.

It's role as both a primary gun and a backup have pretty much been replaced by guns better suited to the roles (a G19 and a P3AT respectively), but I still have it, and don't intend to part with it.

As for mode of carry, I had my spell with a cheap shoulder rig for the Bersa a long time ago. But it wasn't that long ago that I got Ken Null to make me one of his SMZ inverted shoulder rigs for my Bersa. On a rare occasion I'll wear that combo as a primary, but the unique shoulder rig really helps the Bersa shine in the "deep cover" department. Just put the holster on and slip on a shirt (even a good quality, well fitting t-shirt will do), and you're good to go...

Mustang Howie, I'm with you, but for me it was John McClane. I should consider myself lucky he wasn't packing a Hi-Point.

Darren McGavin carried a 1911 .45 in his role of Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer on a TV Series in 1958/59.

Almost 50 years later I am still carrying a 1911 .45
