I haver NEVER used TV or movies as exemplars of how or what to do as regards self-protection, and have difficulty believing that any reasonable and mature person would do so.
I like movies and TV shows which employ firearms, but have never imagined that they represented anything to be emulated.

Have you ended up carrying or owning the same style of handgun as your childhood mentors and tv/movie heroes did?

I don't believe the intent of the question was to indicate that you used a tv/movie hero as a source of information or inspiration to make your choice.
