One that is written down, and that all members of your household know what to do in case a certain scenario were to occur? I've played it out many times in my own head, but other than telling my wife to grab an available gun and barricade herself in the room, I don't know if she would know exactly what to do.

So my plan is to formulate a plan and have it written down. Anyone else care to share their plan?

There are only two of us so it is not written down. If you have teens, you have a problem as you can't tell them anything because they know everything......chris3

Her name is Jameson, she weighs about 60 lbs., has sharp teeth, and rehearses constantly (particularly when the postman and UPS guy come by).

My plan wouldn't help you much.
Since I live alone and no one ever comes to my place unannounced, especially at night, my plan is to shoot everyone that's taller than my cats.:D

So my plan is to formulate a plan and have it written down.
Good for you. And make sure everyone knows that to do.

In the middle of an emergency is no time to try and figure out what everyone should do.

Plan:
Call 911 if its somebody else's problem.
Fight for my life it its my problem.

Outside that, I'm flexible.

Oh,... and don't open the door to strangers.
I think somebody had a sign on their door, said something like this:
"Do you have an invitation?
Is it an emergency?
If you don't have an invitation, and its not an emergency, an emergency will be provided."
:)

Call 911,but tell them you are having a heart attack. Do that around here and you get six pickup trucks in two minutes, next a Surburban with lights, two firetrucks, and then the ambulance. I'm serious. Been there done that. 'Course,it was the truth.

Worse, look around the ranch. We bought because of the land and the open atmosphere of the house. And there ain't no safe place to hunker down and return fire. Just us, so there are friends here and there.

Indeed. Where I live, response time is measured in the tens, ie 20-30 minutes most of the time.
The wife and I have a system in place, involving the standard call to 911 and staying put. If they come to me, they will meet the Thunder-Humper (my Mossberg 590 12 with PDX).
If we move to check out a bump in the night, flashlights, TH, and the wife's 45 come out to play. We used to have a dog, but the old boy passed a few months ago and we aren't quite ready to "replace" him just yet.

I have an alert dog, several weapons and a reputation of being crazy. In a small town all 3 are important for continued solitude.

six dogs that sleep in the house. I figure if the burglar don't run from the noise, they'll trip over the dang things, at some point I figger I'd rescue the poor feller from them and turn him over to the police.

Do you have a home security plan? Heck Yes !
1. Get a gun.
2. Call the dogs off em.
3. Hold em at gun point till the cops get there.

Yep, plan is to let the dogs slow the invader down. Thats a 185 lb mastiff and a 60 lb pitbull. Oh, lets not forget the 17 lb pug..... LOL. Then get to the bedroom and grab the xd45. In the meantime, my wife is calling 911, and grabbing the 12 gauge. Then if we still have time, she hands me the 12 and I hand her the 45.

We have a plan...everyone, including the girls, are trained to aim high enough not to hit the dog.
