Do You Have an Expendable Gun?

The S&W Sigmas & the new SD in 9mm or 40S&W are good EDC guns & not to much money! They work just like a Glock & breakin fine! I hate to lose any of my firearms! But something like this is easy to replaced & they all look about the same. So you have something that will work for EDC, but won't hurt to bad to lose! The Kel-Tec P-11 would also work for some! JMO.

All but two, maybe three are "expendable". The two are dad's WWII bring backs (Luger and P-38). The possible third is lefty Randall 1911. But only because I'd have one heck of a time finding another lefty 1911.

Pretty sad comment on the state of our justice system (the finest that money can buy) that we need to worry about getting our property back. It can come down to one person just deciding he/she doesn't want to give it back. I'm sure none of the good ones have ever gone home with the wrong party before...

I chose a lower dollar, but reliable, piece for CCW not because of possible confiscation but so as to not be reluctant to carry when in circumstances that are hard on a firearm.

I carry pretty much 24/7, usually IWB, and when working outside in the summer I sweat like a hog. Bush hogging & other tractor work can also make for lots of dust & dirt. Even when a day runs 14+ hours or I get caught in the rain, I don't worry much about the effects on the Bersa .40 S&W's finish quality. Just wipe it down/clean it off at the end of the day (replacing sweat with CLP). Periodically the carry loads get fired at the range & no failures to date...

All my guns are expendable, my life is not.
Bingo.
I carry only what I shoot well and what I trust to work 110%.
I don't own any POS guns.
If I ever have to use it (God forbid), it has earned its keep, and if I have to buy another to replace it, such is life.
I have bought and sold a bunch of guns in my life.
The most expensive gun I ever bought costs far less than my funeral. I'll only buy one of those, and I'm in no hurry to do that.

To answer the question directly...guess that would qualify as a "no". :)

Hell yes, I have a CZ 75B ..... Over 4K shots without a problem. Nothing replaced, no wear & tear anywhere.

Sort of OT, but statements like this sort of bug me. Until we invent a literally 0 friction lubricant, the will always be wear and tear where 2 metal surfaces are rubbing. In your case it may just be happening at a slow enought rate that you dont really notice it from one cleaning to the next. But i guarantee that when compared side by side with a new cz75, you would see wear for sure. Also, after 4k rounds, you prob ought to at least change the recoil spring lest you beat the frame up too much.

Ive never understood not doing preventative maintenance. A gun is no different than a car...gotta change the oil. Unless youve got enough capital to buy a new car everytime you blow the engine for lack of oil

Well, EXCUSE ME!:D We have some strong opinions here, and some of them differ.....but isn't that what discussion is all about?:) Keep them coming!

I currently have no firearms that I would mourn their incarceration if the need arose. If I do ever come into possession of such I wouldn't have it avaible as a possible DGU firearm. If it's that important to you, shoot/carry something else.

Some of the surplus guns on the market make great EDC guns! Like the S&W simi -auto's & some of the military surplus like Mak.s &PA-63s CZ.s Ect. Also some of the S&W and Colt Revolvers ect. Some great guns out there! JMO!

I seriously doubt that most people EDC their beautiful $1000 or so firearms. I don't think I'd miss any of my handguns though because they're not all that out of the ordinary or expensive.

I get what you're saying though OP... Even if I did have a few heirloom or cherished firearms, yes, I would find and buy something else that I wouldn't miss but could shoot well.

Me, too. Yet, there are so many here I've seen in other threads that speak down on people who carry sub-one-grand guns.

My defensive handguns are Glocks and a Ruger LCR, both chosen for extreme durability and corrosion resistance, reliability, dead simple manual of arms and the ability to be (relatively) easily replaced. IMO any serious defensive handgun ought to have a twin waiting to take it's place JIC it is ever used in a shooting as it WILL be taken for evidence, at least for a while and quite possibly for quite a while if not for good. I'd sure hate to be defenseless in the meantime.

I have a S&W 4046. My least favorite gun' but the best home defense gun I have. I practise with it, but don't enjoy it much. It is in my nightstand and a burglar would get it right away.

If push comes to shove and I have to use my CCW gun, well it IS expendable no matter what it was.

Yes I'll let the cops take my S&W 640-1 (well 'let' isn't the real word as I won't have much choice in the matter) and same goes for my Glock subcompacts.

The upside is.... I have other Centennials and Glock subcompacts to take their place if they end up in the cops evidence room.

My 642 fits that bill. Aside from just wanting one, it has replaced the 1976 36-1 given to me by my dad-that one is now range only.

To me, "expendable" is too strong a word for anything I have.

Now, I have a couple that fall into the "backup", "loaner" or "semi-beater" category...

The problem is that if you are arrested for the use of a firearm, the first thing a judge will do during your arraignment is instruct you to turn in ALL firearms in your possession until you are adjudicated. Failure to do so is another crime you can be charged with and is contempt of court which can bring jail time. You can then TRY to get them back after you are found innocent. I know it sucks, but that's the way it is.

My Tec-9. One of two guns that I'm not attached to and wouldn't be upset at losing. Not that it would ever be used defensivily though.

As much as I I love my j-frame, it's nothing special and easily replaceable. I'd rather lose it than one of my modified Glocks.

I bought a Kel-Tec P11 because if I had an SD/HD situation I did not want my Browning HiPower to bounce around and get treated poorly in a Police Evidence Locker form months/years while the veracity of my case was decided.
That's some really ridiculous thinking there. If, God forbid, someone is trying to kill you that should be one of the least of your worries.

And we base this supposition on...?
