just a little poll to see what % of members own a 10/22.

any type counts. aftermarket,,,,, whatever.

why would I own a 10/22 when I can buy a Marlin???? However supplies are limited.....I will not buy a Remlin 22LR

I'd count that as a "no"....since he apparently can't vote for himself - count is Yes=3, no=0 at the moment.

I only own 1, but am looking for another to build up for my wife. My father has a 10/22 problem. At least 4, but I think more.

so the very first guy to participate starts bashing the rifle i thought would be cool to take a census on? really?

We all have our preferences, some of us are more vocal then others lol.
I happen to have owned a 597, model 60, and 10/22. All are great rifles in there own rights.
The 10/22 i still have. Currently its got a 17m2 barrel with requisite parts and over mold stock, great little 150-200yd golfball plinket.

Well I've got 3 so that should make up for it. One is a dressed out target rifle, one is a lightweight stainless for hauling around in the woods and the other has a custom barrel with a 1:20 twist rate for experimental purposes. Don't think I'll be buying any more of them, but here in the mountains sight lines are short and I like cheap ammo so other calibers wouldn't get used as much.

I've had two.

The first I used as down payment on a wheeler.

The 2nd, I'm trying to learn how to use a scope. I should probably just stick to iron sights.

Its also my go to gun when I hear a girl say, "I can't shoot guns, they'll hurt me."

I wish I had some RELIABLE mags that held more than 10 rounds.

nope, doesnt float my boat and at 400otd for the takedown model.......well i dont need it that much. But alot of people love them, so they are doing something spot on(just the 10/22 in general).

I've voted yes, even though I'm "between" 10/22's. They come and go as the desire to change / build evolves.I'm sure one will be in the safe again sometime soon.

Try the factory BX-25. Works great.

Per the first response: Folks here at THR are pretty much divided into two categories 1) 10/22 people - 2) Marlin 60 people. Just a fact. Between the two types, we're probably talking like 80% of all semi-auto .22lr on the NA Continent.

Then there are the "I'll hate Ruger forever because of that long dead and buried Bill Ruger and a pox on every gun they ever made or will make because of him" people. So there's that.

I picked 10/22 because it's so easy to take apart so I can keep it clean. I hear that the model 60 is easy as well and that it is equally reliable.

Ruger now has the takedown, Marlin has the papoose.

To be honest, 6 of 1, half dozen of the other I think. I really like the Ruger magazine above all other .22lr magazines. Maybe that was the tipping point?

Not only no, but heck no.

My father bought a 10/22 on an impulse one day 20 years ago because it was on sale at K-Mart or somewhere. He liked the gray stock. He shot it one day and didn't like it. So it sat. It just wasn't as accurate as what he had, even his old worn Savage 23AA. It wasn't as accurate as his long-barreled Model 17-4 handgun.

When he decided to move with mom to assisted living in early 2006 he gave me his guns, except for a few that were returned to his brother. Nobody wanted the 10/22, so we told my uncle to please take it and trade it on something or sell it. I wonder what he ever did with it; I know he doesn't have it anymore.

Fwiw, I had a Marlin Mountie when the 10/22 was introduced and didn't see a single benefit in owning an inaccurate autoloader. If I needed an autoloader for some reason I could borrow my uncle's Browning Auto 22.

I did a custom build and turned it into my "Safari Gun." :)

Kidd trigger, GM HT barrel, buffer, V block and stock. Shoots 0.5 MOA at 25 yards.

why would I own a 10/22 when I can buy a Marlin?

That's like saying, "why would I own a .22 when I can buy a shotgun???". I figure I'm not done collecting until I have at least one of everything. I have a few of the marlins but have at least a half a dozen 10/22s in different configurations.

I have two, one since the early 1970's and the other a year old NIB. I also have several Marlins as well as Remingtons, Winchesters, multiple Springfields, a Saginaw Gear Works, a Taurus, a Universal, a couple of Brownings, and numerous other foreign and milsurp weapons so why is it so important to some people to be critical of a particular brand? Every mechanical endeavor will produce occasional problems but an individuals allegiance to a particular brand of anything shouldn't automatically reduce the quality of their competitors.

bought the delux model in 1979ish. put a 3x9 bushnell on it soon after and taught many people to shoot with it. with the best ammo and conditions it will shoot a tad over 1 moa. my daughter has it now.

The 10-22 rifle is the most kitchen table customized rifle in the world. I have owned customized and bartered/sold more of them than I can remember. Presently I have three complete and parts to put together at least 4-5 others. BTW the new takedown 10-22 is nothing new. Just a slight design modification on the Uncle Mikes kit that was offerred 15-20 years ago.

Cheers,

ts

Yes, three with more to come. Gave Dad a new one for Christmas and it's been a good one. Couple thousand rounds with no malfunctions and factory guns are plenty accurate for most purposes.

...and at 400otd for the takedown model.......well i dont need it that much.
Should be more like $285 street price. If sellers are asking MSRP, find another dealer.

My 10-22 Target never fails to impress me. The new 10-22 take down looks like a great little bug-out game-getter.

I grabbed a used one at cabelas a few weeks ago. Used some gift cards I'd accumulated, so only cost me about $40 out the door.
