Does your perfect carry gun exist? If so, do you have it?

& S&W 625 5" Bbl. 45 oz empty ccw r u kidding?
.45 ACP 6 shot Perhapsa vertical shoulder holster
still that's a lot of weight and bulk

Perfect?

The Commander needs some mods. might bobtail it or
not and just get a CCO. with alloy frame to save some
weight

Yup. LCR .38
crimson trace grips, big dot.
Have plenty of bigger and more powerful guns. Keep it simple, keep it light, always have it on you. I just dont carry bigger guns as much. A handful of high cap .45s in the safe when you arent home, hasnt saved too many lives as near as i can tell.
ymmv

Compromise is the key word. My usual carry is my G19. I also use the Kimber Stainless II.
These 2 are perfect for my situation.

S&W Shied .40 in front pocket or leather vest inside pocket in a Mika holster. A real caliber accurate gun with an extra safety 18 .oz unloaded (the .40 is 1 oz lighter than the 9) and 13/16" thick and smooth. It does not print like a revolver or thicker gun and is just light enough I won't leave it behind. Also not the end of the world if damaged or (shudder) lost.

Deep concealment is a high priority for me at the moment, so my LCR is about as good as it gets. If it wasn't, my ideal would be a subcompact USP or P30, neither of which exist. The P2000SK is close but the grip doesn't feel quite right.

Not perfect but my CW380 is real good.
Beats the LCP hands down
just wish it was a 9 that size

Glock 26 with medium back strap, night sights and +2 magazine extension which actually only holds +1, However does make the grip much better to get your hand on. Carry OWB in a BlackHawk leather holster. Don't like IWB and conceals fine. Went through 5 other guns to decide on this one.

I think not, gotten pretty close a few times. My current entries for the title are.
Kimber pro carry II,Ultra carryII.Czp-01,G19,Xds 9,and a 3'' model 60.I dont count my 380's in this endeavor. When I retire in a few years the search may be over.

The gun exists and I do carry it.....a Boberg XR9S. Only thing missing might be laser grips.

Yep. Kahr PM9.

Had it for ten years, been working for all of those years.

If it quits, I'll let you know...and I'll be looking for something else.

And I'll let you know what that is when i find it.

Colt Magnum Carry. Only drawback is the darn thing is worth too much to replace! Got mine when they could be had inexpensively, took me 2 + years to find one.

Browning Hi-Power is a great candidate if you want a hi-cap slimline single action pistol. I have 3 FEG clones, all in blue. A 'perfect' version might have an alloy frame, be parkerized and have the Novak HRT customization package. I use a lightly modified FEG clone as my competition and HD piece.

1911: Colt lightweight Commander. My first Colt is arguably my favorite. This size pistol is about perfect in balance. I left mine stock except for cocobolo grips.

HK P7: don't own one but one of the slimmest 9mm's I have ever handled. A seriously well designed piece.

I looked a LONG time before found one of these. At 5'7" and 160# I can IWB with no problem in shorts and tee shirt. Accurate and reliable. Carrying a 1911 is like carrying an anvil after having the Shield. Excellent trigger pull. And, when I IWB I'm gonna have something with a safety

Biggest problem I have is that it's so easy to carry that I can forget I have it (no gun zones)

My perfect carry gun is a SIG Sauer P228. I have a 1994 model made in West Germany and carry it IWB. I like it because it's compact, has a capacity if 15+1, and has an AMAZING trigger in both DA and SA modes. Oh, and it's accuracy and reliability is unlike anything else.

It will be when Ruger chambers the LCP in .45acp! Until then I daily carry the .380 LCP. I also like my 45 kimber 5", but I now suffer from the NAS and daily carry is a hitching up chore!

NAS (no ass syndrone) haha Catpop

I think the BHP is pretty close. I carried my Hi-Power for a couple decades. To make it a bit closer to perfect I would like the grip to be 1/4"-1/3" longer to accommodate a couple more rounds and to give me a little more real estate to grip. Hammer bite is an issue with HP. Many people address this by installing a ring-style hammer but a better solution is adding a 1911-style beavertail. I'd prefer not having to have the mag disconnect removed so not having one would be great. The last thing I'd change about the BHP would be to give it a slightly larger safety lever with a bit more positive detent.

This new and improved BHP would be very close to a perfect gun to me. The only minor issue is that in many ways I have just described the HK P30S. At one point I was thinking about sending my Hi-Power to Cylinder and Slide to have a beavertail welded on, etc. While I would still like to do it if the money fell in my lap I'll probably just live with the gun as it currently is and carry my USPc, VP9 or P30S until something even closer to perfect comes along.

I have long said

that the Glock 23 may just be the perfect handgun for the following reasons:

Incredibly reliable
Chambered for the potent 40 S&W
Holds 14 rounds
Light weight
Concealable

Buttttt........ I carry a 4" Kimber 1911 along with 2 spares all day every day. Go figure. It is perfect in it's own way.;)

A laser-grip S&W Airweight with the Roy Rodgers/Hollywood enhancement that means you only have to tote five rounds of light ammunition BUT it NEVER RUNS OUT OF AMMO . . . and with bullets that automatically expand to 230gn .45 hollowpoints @ 950fps as they exit the barrel! LOL

Seriously though, for a moment, I don't think there's a single handgun in the world that will satisfy every shooter and every carry situation.

So . . . my favorites:

1. "ALWAYS" in the pocket carry handgun: S&W Airweight in .38 Spl. No matter what ELSE that I MIGHT be carrying, this little flyweight is something that one can always have on them. A gun that's too big or too heavy to have on you will NOT help you if trouble comes and you aren't ready! Also, TWO guns = one gun if something happens to the first one. So, that all being said, and with that being in the pocket . . .

2. Step up carry handguns:
Revolver - S&W Model 65 3" barrel in .357 Magnum
Automatic - Kimber Ultra CDP (original series) aluminum-framed "officer's size" in .45ACP, w/Nightsights. The lightweight Kimber usually gets the honors . . . simply because it is lighter.

3. Preferred carry when possible:
Revolver - custom S&W Model 25-2, 3 1/4" barrel. Moon-clipped .45ACP
Automatic - 5" 1911 Colt Combat Elite (1st generation) in .45ACP w/Nightsights. Both are heavier of course, but both are serious weapons too.

4. Holstered Hunting Revolver: S&W Model 29, 6" in .44 Magnum, topped with a Holosight and stoked with Keith-style hard-cast flatnose lead bullets (300 gn.) that are both superbly accurate AND that put virtually all big game animals down fast!

5. Holstered Hunting handgun, small game: Ruger Mk II Target Model, topped with a Holosight in .22

Alas, we are all different, and the safe has many more options in it, but these are the ones I've come to prefer over the past few decades. I love every single one of the ones mentioned, and all are superbly accurate and well made.

QUESTION: What would I prefer in my hand when things go bump in the night? The S&W 25-2 mentioned above, backed with my holder containing eight loaded moon clips. It makes a GREAT travel gun too on road trips!

It is like an extension of my body, and the special metal front sight is filed SHARP to prevent an attacker from grabbing, and gaining control, of the firearm in close quarters. It is also heavy enough to use as a club if one had to . . . the perfect fighting handgun!

Kimber Ultra CDP for the last 12 years. I've replaced only the stocks to make it "perfect." Other than that, the gun has been flawless in every respect. Don't want to tempt fate by changing now, though there are likely Colt products that are it's equal, but back when I got it-not so much. At any rate, my perfect gun will likely always be a 1911-my perfect carry gun, a 3" 1911.
