Dream revolver

I have had Colt, S&W & Dan Wesson big bore, DA revolvers and though they were all good, When I saw the advertisement for Ruger's new Redhawk I fell in love. I went down to my LGS and put my name on the waiting list for one when they started arriving. I asked for the 7.5" barrel length with the integral scope mounts and since In was planning on using it for hunting I chose the Stainless Steel model. Almost a year later the LGS called me to tell me my gun arrived. I rushed down and he laid the black and yellow cardboard box in front of me. I reached in and took the beautiful gun out of the plastic bag it was wrapped in, but as I was inspecting it I noticed .41magnum was stamped on the barrel and not .44magnum. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. The clerk apologized and said he would get another one ordered. I started to walk away and the owner asked me why. I said it was not what I had ordered and waited a year for and secondly I knew nothing about the .41magnum. He handed me a book on that caliber written by Elmer Keith and after reading about it took it home. I have been hunting with it, topped with a 2X Leupold handgun scope and taken many animals. The only thing I did not like was that Ruger barrel lengths were always 1/2" shorter than other brands. I wanted the same gun but with a 4" barrel for woods carry. I finally, after looking for many years found a 5 1/2" version that I bought new in box for a really good price. I took it to my buddies machine shop, cut the barrel to 4", recrowned it, machined a slot in the top rib for a new front sight, dehorned and bead blasted the gun. So for 15+ years it has been my dream revolver, even though I now have 3 Redhawks in .41magnum. Here they are. The one in the middle is the 4".

A S&W model 15, chambered in .32 s&w long or 32h&r
S&W calls a 32 SWL k frame a Model 16-0, 16-1, 16-2, 16-3, and K-32.

S&W calls a 32 H&R k frame a Model 16-4.

S&W only made about 3000 32SWL k frame revolvers over the entire production life.

S&W made about 8000 Model 16-4’s.

The 32 SWL guns are about as rare as hen’s teeth. The 16-4’s not so much.

Both will be expen$ive.

Thanks for the breakdown. I know there are guns out there that are similar to what I want, but part of the appeal of .32 revolvers to me is the frugality of the round… so paying thousands seems like it defeats the purpose, in a sense. Can’t be that hard for S&W to make a run in a different chambering. But it sure seems like it!

I have several times suggesed to S&W to make a Model 16 in their Classic line of revolvers. I'd think they would sell out in a skinny minute. But alas, they have not followed my suggestion. Damn marketers!

Manurhun makes a 32 SWL K-frame sized target revolver (MR32) that is imported to the US by Beretta. It scratched my itch and is a wonderful shooting iron. But, not any more economical to buy than a used K-32.

I'll still keep my eye out for a K-32 or Model 16 S&W but I have not been to a gun show since the pandemic. I'd love to find an 8-3/8" barrel version but talk about finding needle in a haystack...

I agree, a 32 SWL revolver would be a good substitute for a "reloadable 22 RF" equivalent.

Do not own a revolver, don't when that'll happen, so I can't dream up anything really custom, but I I'd be after uniqueness and looks in those, so:

Mateba Autorevolver (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mateba_Autorevolver) - they are out of business now
Dan Wesson slab sided revolvers - out of production too
Korth (https://kortharms.com/en/nxr-44-6.html)

Achievable and available:

Chiappa Rhino (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiappa_Rhino)

Python/Anaconda

Thick and menacing barrel surroundings theme really holds here :)

One that got away from me after shooting it for years in ICORE and USPSA matches.

Smith % Wesson 627 V-Comp 357, All tricked out with a trigger job by Randy Lee of Apex Tactical. Trigger pull, Double Action, is set at 4 pounds. Hogue Mono Grips and that 's about all we did to revolvers back then. Cleaning up the garage today I found another compensator for it. I needed to get rid of all my centerfire guns a few years ago do to health reasons. This is one that got away that I truly miss.

Oh I must mention. Again, never owned cap-and-ball, but have an interest.

Lemat would be it for me for cap-and-ball:

(this shows out of stock, but it's a Pietta replica, they are out there)

History:

You can just imagine a downed confederate horse leader firing 9 balls and then the final shotgun blast at the advancing victorious union wave. Oil painting material.

I had a cap and ball revolver for a while many moons ago. It was fun to shoot but I hated the cleaning at the end if the day.

I ultimately gave it to my farrier who was Civil War re-enactor in a cavalry group and he needed another revolver.

Anyway, I was shooting at a range one day and another shooter said that I could fire off 6 quick shots and escape in the smoke screen.:)

I think I'd enjoy the process once in a while. Drawn to the history and how it had to be done in the days prior to what we have today.

Can't recall what pistolero practiced that, but if the day ended up without a gunfight, he'd use up the chambers for target practices upon returning home. Wish I could try that in city limits :)

I want blued Bisley Single Sixes in .25Flea, .327Federal and .38Spl with a Turnbull case color frame.

I'd like a Super Redhawk in blued steel in any caliber. Or one with a Redhawk style barrel. Or both.

Bisleys in .454 and .480 with 4 5/8" and 5 1/2" barrels in blued steel with Turnbull frames.

Ruger can add the .500JRH to their line-up.

S&W can build me an 8 3/8" K-32 in .327 without that stupid lock or MIM guts.

Same for a new version of the 1950 Target .44Special.

Colt can just build me a New Frontier .44Spl with a 4¾" barrel and color cased hammer.

Then a blued 6" Anaconda.

From what I remember, you already have a couple, maybe 3 or 4, dream revolvers!

adcoch1,

Andy Horvath is a specialist in converting the Ruger Single Six. Not sure what he charges but all the work he has done for my family and friends has been reasonable.

As for the S&W Model 1917, they are still out there and good ones can be found.

I certainly do. At this point, I doubt there will be any more extravagant than the .500 I already have. Truth be told, unless I'm able to take a jackrabbit safari, I don't really have a use for a .327 sixgun so those would be pure fluff.

Just imagine for a minute that you pull that golden ticket from your favorite wheelgun maker and they can build you anything that you want within reasonable limitations. What do you go for? Barrel length, caliber, custom touches, grip design, optics, sights, materials, plating, coating, engraving, you name it because remember it’s your golden ticket to build your dream.
I already did.......twice!
