"It's nothing to see people with nothing to do walking around at 2 and 3 in the morning."
If you drive through "bad" neighborhoods in the middle of the night, you might be surprised at the things you see. I worked as a firefighter/paramedic (now retired) and it was very common to run a call at 0200 and see kids playing outside by themselves. Unsupervised. Every single night.
This was usually something people who were new to the profession always commented on. "why do people call us in the middle of the night. They should be in bed asleep.............." And I would explain the obvious to them: when you don't work, and you don't really do anything responsible with your life, 0200 is no different from 1400. In fact, after drinking and getting high all night, a lot of these people don't wake up until late afternoon. They don't have anywhere they need to be. Going to the hospital for the most trivial thing or getting arrested really doesn't put much of a curve in their lives: that just means they will miss sitting on the couch watching TV and getting drunk and high for a few hours.
For the vast majority of people, they just can't grasp the fact that just because they have a certain lifestyle that not everybody conducts their lives like they do. Other people don't think like you, they don't act like you, they don't have the same value system you do. They don't live like you do. When you use your own idea of what is "normal" you are leaving a lot out of the discussion.
This of course also doesn't take into account the fact that a LOT of people don't work in an office Monday-Friday 9 to 5. Lots of people work various shifts including night shifts. When they have a day off, them being up and active in the middle of the night is just their "normal". And they arn't doing anything criminal.
