Mostly obvious.

What's mostly obvious from this discussion is that government at all levels and in most countries has screwed up drug laws beyond comprehension.

Frankly I dont care where you find joy & happiness in your life. I could care less if you find it in a needle, a glass pipe, a bottle, or a pill, so long as you work to buy the things that make you happy and dont steal.

Holy crap, did ANY of you go to college? Do you remember that phase of your life? I do and as the adage goes, there's a time and place for everything, and it's called college.

Um... Liberty and Freedom does not mean I have to tolerate or condone illegal drug activities.

Um, yes it does, remember, long ago, none of this stuff was illegal. You tolerated it by dissociating and distancing yourself with those that pursued these activities, much like is still done today.

Do you call the police every time you catch a wiff of doobie, see a person looking tweaky? I live in Portland, stoners and tweakers are everywhere man. I'm not a cop, I just steer clear. If my intolerance were such that I let others activities bother me that much, I'd be in the loony bin.

Your liberty ends where my nose begins. --which founding father said that?

This thread is worse than the Alcohol thread, this is The High Road, not The High Horse, go into the Democratic Underground for that drivel.

Here is another case where the laws are totally irrelevant. If someone is going to break the laws regarding drug usage then they will also break the law regarding guns.[ /B]

And, generally, any other law they disagree with. Getting rid of laws because people won't stop breaking them, is a little like not picking up garbage because people keep putting more out.

There are good reasons for repealing any law, but a minority of the people's propensity for breaking it, is not a paricularly compelling reason on it's own.

Group 9, I think you are missing the point. The point being that if my actions, or what I own, cause no one else harm, then it should not be regulated.

I know, drug addicts are pathetic( I have them in my immediate family).

I know that the way they conduct their lives, impacts other in the family.

If they use and endanger their kids, there are endangerment laws. If they drive under the influence, there are dui laws. If they steal to get their fix, there are theft laws. If they go to work everyday to the satisfaction of their employer, pay their bills like the rest of us, make sure the kids are provided for, then I think they should be able to do what they want.

Do I condone it? No.

Do I encourage it? No.

Do I associate with them just because they are my family? Nope.

And let me tell you, I get more flack from that than anything else I do.

Know what else I don't do? I don't tell grown adults how to live their lives. I don't lecture them, I don't rant and rave at them, I let them alone because it is their right to live their life as they see fit.
