I am acquainted with five individuals who between them have killed 17 people. One has 14 shootings with 8 killed, another 12 shootings with 6 dead, and the other three 1 each. Of this group the man with 8 kills drinks heavily and will not discuss the events. None of the others has (to my knowledge) ever had any PTSD from the shootings.

The 8 and 6 shootings were both police officers with the New Orleans PD. One was a member of the old Felony Action Squad. The other was a very "high activity" officer who worked in the rough areas of the city.

One of the "single incident" shooters defended himself and his girlfriend from an armed robbery in broad daylight. He and his girlfriend were walking together when an individual sprang from a hedge, pushed him aside, and put the knife to his girlfriends neck. He drew, fired five shots at a range of about 2 feet into the perps upper right chest. After the last shot, the perp turned 180 degrees, took one step and fell like a tree onto the sidewalk. The deceased was a serial armed robber and had been sought by the police for weeks. He was treated very well by the police and got his gun back within several weeks.

The other single event shooter was a co-worker who had to shoot his former father-in-law. This shooting could have been prevented very easily. The deceased was a personal friend of the sheriff and had, by the sheriff's admission(and others), been saying, for over a year that he was going to kill Mr. X on sight. Neither the sheriff nor anyone else ever tried to intervene in any way.

Mr. X went to his ex wife's house to pick up his children not realizing that the father-in-law was also on the way there. As Mr.X drove up, the father-in-law came out of the house, walked up to Mr X's truck, stated in a loud voice "I told you I was going to kill you" and lunged into the truck through the open driver's window and began beating Mr. X in the head and upper body with a beer bottle. Mr.X was finally able to grab the man's arm and cause him to drop the bottle. At the same instant he also noticed his assailant had a pistol stuck into the waistband of his pants and that he was trying to draw it. He reached into the glovebox of his truck and removed his Colt Commander(.45 ACP)just as the guy got his hand on the butt of the pistol. He emptied the Colt into his chest at contact distance. His assailant slid off the door and collapsed onto the driveway, dead right there. With the deceased's prior statements about killing on sight, witnesses statements which verified his version of the events, and physical evidence, the shooting never went before a grand jury.

It is interesting that the sheriff came to the scene, sat down next to the deceased and cried.

where to start? one thing i will say is i heard grossmen's book is very informitive. i believe you can learn something from everybody you come in contact with. i have not been in this situation before & hope i never will, but sometimes crap happens. in war or as a person who carrys, i don't think i would have s ptsd from it, at least not directly. if i was with my family & one of them got shot or killed i might. if i am just defending myself weather in service for my country or self defense, i don't believe i would. i am a christian and imo believe through studying the bible, that you can defend yourself, someone else, or your country & not be in sin. so i would be able to be at peace with God & therefor myself. i think it would bother me more to see some of the atrocities that are committed in war & in society & this might leave me with a ptsd. what mankind is capable of doing, never ceases to disgust me.

Got warned for something else I posted so I deleted this in case it was too much as well.

I shot a guy (intruder).
I was more concerned with getting my gun back from the police.
And then of course having to wait to see if I was cleared. I was.

10mm, when you care enough to send the very best.
