Ever wondered what might of happened if you did not have a gun?

As a woman, especially as a small and clumsy woman, I would be the property of any man who could take me from the man who owned me and have no say in my own fate.

The Red Sonja fantasies about swordswomen who can beat any man no matter how much larger and stronger he is are just that -- fantasies.

We'd still be part of the British Empire. Crime would be the same, since everyone would just be stabbing each other rather than shooting each other and I wouldn't have discovered another great hobby.

We'd still be part of the British Empire.

The British empire would have never existed, and thier positive influences on the world would not have existed. Don't forget many of the beliefs our founding fathers took a step further were based on logic and precedents established within Britain.

The military power that allowed an island nation to achieve what it did was accomplished with firearms and naval guns.

You got me Zoogster. Part of the reason that the British were able to colonize the Americas was because of guns. My bad.

The point remains the same, though, that times would be very different today.

If the thug kept on coming and ignored your Dad's warnings, two more lives could have been saved. I don't know. Can't say for sure. Did they catch the perps?

Had mom not been there then he just might have. Then again they may have
been harmless. I think he did not want her to see somthing like that unless
there was no around it.

As for if they caught them I don't recall.... it was about 25 years ago

Freedom would not exist as we know it.

Hand combat would benefit those who trained, spent most of thier lives training and studying various types of fighting and practiced methodicly since childhood.
To support such a warrior class that produced and contributed little an even larger number of people would have to work more hours for less.

(...)

So it is a very different game. One that gives a much greater chance at freedom to the average person.
Well stated.

Here's the best essay I've read on the subject:

(A World without Guns by Dave Kopel)

Thumbody:
Great essay! However, the following paragraph caught my attention and prompted a thought...

To say that life in the pre-gunpowder world was violent would be an understatement...Most women couldn't protect themselves from rape, except by granting unlimited sexual access to one male in exchange for protection from other males.

...Does that mean firearms make marriage obsolete? ;)

I'd have a lot less fun poking holes in targets, but I assume that's not the gist of your question.

You need only look at the other assaults that occur to get something of an answer to your question.
