Due to experience, maturity, and increased income, I've found my tastes in guns to mature.

My first guns were a Beretta 92, Taurus .357 revolver, Remington 870 12 gauge, and Taurus .40 compact.

I later picked up a PTR91.

Now, with the expection of the 870 (which is still a go-to for home defense), the Beretta 92 and Taurus .40 are long gone and the Taurus takes a back seat to other revolvers.

My tastes evolved from the AR and PTR91 to the AK and then the M1A and later the FAL metric DSA for battle rifles.

My tastes went to Glock, XD and CZ for pistols, then back to Glock. Fell in love with the 1911. Got into single action abit. Played with HKs for awhile, and now am in love with Sig Sauer P220 and P229 pistols.

Anyone else have a fun evolution?

The Sigs may take over the home defense role in my house...

yes! i used to hunt therefore bolt action rifles, shotguns and black powder were the norm. now my interests are in target and fun. i am focused on 1911 and am really considering a semi auto tommy gun--impractical but fun (i reload). also into suppressed 22's with an awc amphibian intergal and a thompson machine zephyr xl for a contender carbine.

i am contemplating on selling off some great pieces that have seen little use in the last year.

My tastes are always changing. Actually just traded a like new Sig P250 for a T/C Contender in 30-30. Tomorrow, inauguration trade that old Winchester for something more modern. Just depends on what I'm feeling.

Well Kinda. . . I started with Smith and Wessons and Colt's for revolvers on and off duty. The last 8 or 10 guns I've bought have been Sigs. I have several Marlin lever guns, Kimber and Browning Rifles and a Benelli Semi Auto for goose.

Always buy the best you can afford, and you won't be disappointed. . .

Mine haven't changed much at all.

In 1962 I drooled all over the Model 70's and Browning Superposed I couldn't afford.

Still doing the same today over Ed Brown Centianial Presentation's & Krieghoff's & Merkals I can't afford now.

My firearm choices are always evolving, and sometimes re-volving.

Over the years I've amassed a pretty good collection (3 safes full) of both handguns and long guns for me to select from. My current carry pistol is a Springfield XD .40 sub-compact and S&W j-frame +P as an on-duty backup. Both stoked with Hornady Critical Defense loads.

My collection goes back to my S&W Model 19 (no dash) .357, my first ever duty gun, circa 1971.

Im not sure that my taste have evolved as much as "devolved". I find myself more interested and satisfied with what i consider to be "classic" firearms, as in model 70s, levers, doubles, single action revolvers etc. instead of "tacti-cool".Maybe its just because i grew up with those, or its because im old and pissed off most of the time!

Yeah, and you got to see some of it too. I'm picky about things that perhaps I shouldn't be. I don't look down on XD pistols for instance, I don't own any, I just evolved into a "Glock Guy". Never meant for it to happen either, but one day you mention you have six of 'em and some guy says "Oh, you're that Glock guy, I got a question...". Same with the M4. It just got so comfortable to me that I think they should all feel that way now. I got an FAL just to tinker with and break the monotony. Try turning one into an SDM rifle, that is a chore.

My shooting habits evolved too, and that in turn affected the gear. I became a big afficionado of fine barrels from long range shooting. Changing shooting habits seem to affect me more than anything.

But for some reason, when it comes to shopping for a weapon, I still go for Smith revolvers and Glock autos, and when it comes to rifles, I build my AR's --I just don't trust anyone else to do it.

One of these days I'll get an Ed Brown 1911, but where I'd like to evolve to is to my own mill and lathe setup... Make my own from scratch, minus the barrel. The ultimate evolution!

Started out with shotguns and rifles, mostly for hunting. Initial handgun interest was revolvers, which eventually shifted to semi-autos. Now it's mainly M1911 type pistols, primarily Colts, though I must admit to a recent fascination with Single Action revolvers as well.

I am and always have been A big fan of 1911s and smith and wesson revolvers. Tried others but sold all of them.
For years I was an AR type guy. Then I bought A marlin 1895 GS 45-70 because I wanted A thumper. I discovered that the lever action realy fit the way I like to shoot. I still have 2ARs and 2 FALs. but I also have 7 Marlin lever actions. 30-30,45-70, .356 Win, and .22.
Discovered A love for blue steel and walnut!:D

Yes, first 20, steel guns snubbys, mid 90's- polymer glocks. Every thing in between, in every caliber up to 45. 2010, back to Glock & 1911's, 9 and 45,bought an AR, tossed the bugs, except for 1,lcp, enjoy shooting 9mm and 45 as always. Tried an AK, hated it.Try to buy American when possible. Lost the revolvers along the way. Too heavy and small capacity, as we all know, you have to have 50 rounds on you when leaving the house. found a 30 year old thing last night in a drawer, the bullett wallett, it was made to hold 18, 38's, in it, were my uncle Mikes "real uncle" 38 hand loads, must be 30+ years old, he was a smith. I don't know what's in them, they still appear to be in pristine condition, copper jacketed lead hollow points. filled the wallett with 9mm and now I have a covert stash of 18, 9mm and 6, 380's in this slim plastic wallett, finally I can leave home.
I sure would like to shoot one or two of those 38's, Probablly take down a tree with one knowing my uncle.Anyone have one of these, called "MTM Case Gaurd, 18". Really a great idea, it held 3 reloads for a standard 6 shot 38. Thin as the bullett plus 1/16 on each side. They snap into slots. Very handy way to carry some extra ammo. Should make them now for 9's and 380's

Congratulations on your journey.

You will have reached the pinnacle when you spend most of your time with cap and ball revolvers.

Have fun along the way!!

That's one thing I see as cool about the times we live in now. We have so much more room for change of tastes than folks did in the 17-1800's. Personally, I can't see just a whole lot of other stuff I see as cool now aside from advances in medicine. (cure, not costs).

The Sigs may take over the home defense role in my house...

After high school, (when I shot whatever my Dad handed me) and then the Navy (I shot whatever the Navy handed me) I mostly shot bolt actions for deer hunting.

My first self defense handgun was a 1911, but i quickly jumped into Glocks. Not long after, I started trying HK's, Sig's and XD's. Found Sigs to be smooth, accurate and reliable. Also found that I like the ergonomics of Sigs over Glocks. Also liked the DA/SA trigger of Sigs over that plasticky feeling Glock trigger. So I carried P226's and P228's. Still love them. But one day, I started doing drills where I would draw from concealment and fire two shots. I ran this drill with every handgun I owned dozens of times. i timed myself and scored my tw shots for accuracy. What i found was, with a little practice, the 1911 smoked Glocks, Sigs, XD's and DA revolvers. (YMMV ;) On top of all that, the 1911 was delivering 230 grain JHP's faster and more accurate (for me) than all those other platforms shooting 9mm, 40 and 38's. So I'm back to where I started, 1911's all the way. (with my trusty Ruger LCR in a pocket holster all the time)

I don't think I have "Evolved" as much as expanded. I still have every gun I have ever purchased since the first 22 revolver in 1959 (Except 2 that were stolen).

Evolved? Not really. My dad instilled a love of old Winchesters, Colts, SxSs and WWII milsurps. It's hard to go up from Trapdoors, '73s, '92s, SAAs, Garands and Carbines. I've just found myself adding to his (now mine, but I'll always call them his) collection.

I have added the normal tools, the hunting and SD firearms.

My only significant change in interest in firearms is that now the military surplus arms get my attention too. Therefore I now own a couple and might acquire more.

I started out with pre civil war black powder rifles that led to Civil war and indian wars era carbines and revolvers. I have moved to an AK and a glock for competitions, but the antiques still hold me interested. I spent tonight picking out which flintlock to take deer hunting this muzzleloader season

If there is a trend, its from rimfire to centerfire rifles to revolvers then 1911s and now plast...uhm, polymer hi-cap pistols.

May have forgot one or two.

I think (outside of physical limitations) hso got it right.

As for the limitations, I cannot shoot BHPs or 1911s with out a beavertail unless I want to bleed. I'm not fond of bleeding, unless it's someone else, then I'm pretty neutral. :D

My recent revelation was that the SCAR 17 (.308) makes my FALs and M1As look like gramps 1968 Pontiac compared to a (insert modern fast car here).

If someone gets the spare magazine issue solved, one is on my list.

Not really. I started shooting Smith and Wesson revolvers in 1969 and have stayed with them ever since. My preference in Smiths has changed I've gone from preferring M-19's both 2 1/2" and 4" barrels to full sized N frames, perhaps I'm trying to compensate in my old age;).

I have always been fat and clumsy. My father compared my coordination to that of a hog on ice. Some drill sargents thought he had insulted the pig. I stumble and fall somuch that I only hunt or carry guns with hammers and trigger actuated firing pin blocks. I limit my self to lever actions, break actions andrevolvers. I don't see myself as limited.

Started off with a Raven MP25...still have it but now use an XDM for range practice. Still don't regret buying the little cheapo Raven, it has served me well through several hundred rounds.
