if i were you, i'd see if grampa will let you borrow that mark II for a year or so.

at the end of that time, you'll be in a much better position to get a centerfire gun of your own.

pauli, great idea, yet
1) i do not live on enough land to shoot legally
2) i am surrounded by roads and houses (i don't live in suburbia, but everything is placed in the most inconvienent area. the longest area to shoot is about 150-200 feet, part of that is my neighbors lawn, and behind that area is a frequently used road...)
3) someday i'll get to a range, whether i drive myself (one year) or get driven... and i'll bring grampas MKII, rifle, and other fun things, a few bricks of ammo, etc, and practice. i still have 6 years till i can buy a pistol. i will also rent some centerfires at the range.

it's always good to have an idea of what to get...

so anyway, i'm leaning toward the Glock 17 or 19...

the SA MilSpec 1911 is great, but maybe it will be #2, because of the heftier caliber...

FN BHP 9mm... simple to take down, all steel, good accuracy, single action.

Can be had with factory adj. sights if you prefer.

haha! like i said, i'd rather do this now and get lots of time to decide, handle, etc, so i know what i'm doing. then, once i can get my second pistol, (first pistol's a Ruger GP-100 revolver) i won't need to do a lot of deciding.

anyways, i'm leaning toward the Glock 17 or 19 for a first pistol. simple operation, few parts (IIRC the G17 has some 20-odd parts which is evidently not a whole lot) 1911 next, i think.
