i just got an SA XD .45 for my first pistol and love it. but i have a strong desire to get a 1911 i just dont know which brand is the best one for me. id love to get a kimber but the price is just too much. is there a "decent" 1911 for 500 to 600 dollars out there. any advice would be helpful.

My Taurus PT1911 has proven to be a real nice pistol. You also may want to check out the Rock Island Armory. I've heard good things about this one too, and both are in your price range.

A Colt is always the right answer!!!

But a Springfield in right in the range. You can do the search, but they have forged frame and slide. Great starting point for a build up, or just as they are.

Buy a Taurus - I have owned several 1911's and shot many more - i used to carry them for duty - DONT BUY KIMBER - not that they are bad - just that for the money they dont add up - i had more jams with the Kimbers then the Springfields - i stopped carrying them for duty because i didn't trust them anymore - you can get a nice "loaded" springer for a decent price - if i was going to buy another 1911 i would put another Taurus - it was the cheapest 1911 i ever owned and i think it was just as good as all of the 5 kimbers iv had my paws on - if you look hard enough you should find one for under 500 - i paid 400 and sold it used for 300 - a great gun for the money - keep looking - or better yet - dont buy a 1911 - find a used HK - they can be had for the same price if you look hard enough - i went back and probably wont go 1911 again for awhile

What do you guys think of Para-Ordnance's 1911? I saw a pretty kkp model, but they wanted like $780 for it. I, too, would love to get a 1911 - I just bought my first .45 a couple of months ago - picked the Ruger P90. Great gun, I love it, but would also love to have a 1911 model.

Save 300 dollars more and get a Dan Wesson 1911. You will not regret it.
I considered the $600 SA and I also have a XD but in 9mm. I figured I only live once and will have the gun the rest of my life. It really depends on your $ situation, but at least consider it.
