Tested some ammo with the Mosin M39 VKT and Swiss 1911. Besides the Mausers like my Swedish they are among my most accurate surplus rifles. I love the Swiss 1911 I love the long sight radius and the trigger. Fact is first time I shot them in ten years though, they have been in the back of the safe. They will now be at the front of the safe.

Two fouling shots at a clay pigeon with the Mosin and then five shot group , only did five shots of Tula and five of the PP ammo, more time spent could have made better groups but time was limited , however 2 1/2 inch groups or so is satisfactory for me with factory ammo, since GP 11 is hard to find I'm keeping the Swiss dialed in for PP ammo.

I didn't adjust sights for each group, the ammo hows how impact area changed just because of different ammo.

Enjoy my own 91/30 so much that I got some Lee dies and began handloading for it. Then I discovered an adjustable for both windage & elevation front sight that looks almost exactly like the original, ( didn't want to Bubba my Mosin); I can even put the original back on if desired. From an outfit called " Euclidean Machine Works" . Got it 2 years ago; just checked their web site at www.euclideanmachine.com and they still show it as available for those who wish to keep an all original looking Mosin-Nagant that can still get the front sight tweaked for better accuracy. Here's a couple 9" paper plates from a couple summers ago. The 182 gr PPU shoots pretty good and there's my handload #4; both at 100yds..... I don't consider it bad for a senior citizen with iron sights. That new front sight helped out. mosin 182 g privi 100 yd 9-20-17.JPG Mosin L4.JPG

Nice M-39work :D
Probly just shooting a bit high at 100 yards because the rear sights lowest setting 150. Valmet put together some mighty fine M-39's as did Sako. The Valmet barrels were made by Tikkakoskoi 'Tikka", and I think in the Mosin world, the difference shows. If those are your opener's, then further shooting would have definitely brought them tighter.
When I shoot 100 yards, I keep a 6 o'clock hold on the black center or lower jaw line of my ''target''

It looks like the PPU has a few more feet per second over the Tula brand.

Unlike M91/30's and other 91's, the Finn Mosins sights were set with out a bayonet hanging off the end, changing the point of impact, when taken off, quite a bit.

The Finns also altered the Mosin sights slightly for their Mod. 28 with windage adjustments.

Never chronographed any Tula ammunition in the Mosin ( wish I would have) but for what it's worth if anyone's interested my old long barreled 91/30 launches a standard mil-surp round at an average 2887 fps. at 80 degrees. The 150 gr. PPU at 2797 fps @ 80 degrees. About 6 years ago I also picked up some genuine Russian 7.62x54R FMJ 182 gr. Match Ammo that shot pretty good except I didn't do any photos that day. I did chrono 4 of them for an average velocity of 2551 fps. Have only seen that ammo once..... Glad I at least got to try some. IMG_2702.JPG IMG_2703.JPG

And before we get too far into "Mosin Land" I forgot to compliment the OP on those nice groups with that Swiss 1911. I've heard they shoot very well but have no experience with them. I'd love to get one to play with but currently I have to thin out what I have now because there's no more room for everything and any more guns will mean something has to become a wall hanger just to make room.

My dad has a Valmet he has never shot, as far as I know. When he finally retires down here, it is on my "must shoot" list!

Believe it or not, I had a M11 chambered in 6.5X55! Someone cleverly fitted a Swede Mauser barrel to the Swiss Receiver so that the cross and crown were right next to each other. The rifle cycled and shot perfectly, very smooth action, but I didn't want to load the 6.5 ammo and passed it on......wish I'd kept it now.:(

I have a few types of milsurps, gotta say in terms of accuracy and condition where you can usually expect great accuracy the Swedish mauser, the Swiss 1911 or K31 and the Finland Mosin M39 along with a excellent condition South American contract mauser if you can find one like a Argentine or Chilean are gonna be the most accurate that will group great "all day long" not just "best group of the day". Should mention the Persian mauser also.

I have 2 M39, 2 Swiss 1911 and 3 K31 and 3 Swede they all perform similar plus what I have seen others post on their targets.

Any other milsurp being that were issued and and maybe overhauled and maybe feed corrosive ammo at some point can be hit and miss on accuracy. The Swede, the Swiss , the M39 I am confident will group 2" or a little over (with my eyes and skill) consistantly while other milsurp like a M1903, M1917, Garand, K98 and Mosin 91 and so on is a maybe.

Well dang for whatever reason looking at ammoseek 7.5 Swiss ammo is dry right now so the Swiss will remain silent for now

And went to .308 vs .310-.311.

I love the almighty Mosin !!

My personal collection includes
2 91/30's, one of which is a former
PU, 1 carbine and inherited a sporterized
91/30 that my Dad had before I was born.
At least 55 years in his possession.
Dad's was iron sighted for as long
as I can remember.
Then bubba came
along and messed it up.
I will need another bolt to fix it
no big deal, it's force mached anyway.
