This is my rendition to choosing my 9mm. I looked at the G19 as well as the G26 but as stated below I went with the G26 because of the size variance

So if you can accommodate the size difference of the G19 add 3 points to that or just move the tally of the G19 to a G26 ... after all their both a Block :neener:

Your hand is quite an adaptable tool, handle something enough times and it just feels right

I put a M&P9c in my hand and it felt kinda like I had a Wheeler in my hand because the grip felt slim to me more like a revolver

I put a Block G26 in my hand and it felt like I really had something in my hand

I put the M&P9c in my cargo shorts pocket and it didn't fit very well and printed too much < it's a little longer and a bit higher then a Block G26

I put the Block G26 in my cargo shorts pocket and it felt right at home < it's a little shorter and not as high as an M&P9c

So I got the Block G26 ... I carry it in my cargo shorts daily and no one is non the wiser and I have 11 rounds of self preservation if need be and with it I am quite capable of hitting an 8inch plate out to 30ft and so should anyone else with practice :D

3 points for the Blocker

Personal Experience

Well, I have a couple of suggestions.

From our "collection" here at home, may I offer these:

* Kahr P9 :
Lightweight, compact, and accurate. I shoot this pistol better than anything else I have in a service caliber, although the difference between this and the PT111 is the width of a fifty-cent piece at 25 yards.

* Taurus PT111 (Millennium Pro) :
Light, compact, accurate. Nearly double the capacity of the Kahr P9, but that translates to a thicker carry piece. It's actually my wife's pistol, but I shoot it better than my two bigger guns.

* Taurus PT911 (==> CZ 75 series) :
Compact, nearly full-sized service pistol, 15 round magazine, same size as CZ 75 P01 variant. From shooting this and handling the CZ 75, allow me to recommend the CZ 75 series pistols, including the 75B and P01. The PT911 isn't a bad gun, but if I had that purchase to do over, I would buy the P01 sitting on the shelf beside it.

* Hi-Point C-9
Larger and clunkier than either of my favorites. Hard to conceal, poor choice for carry. Blowback action instead of locking bolt. My son has one of these. He outshoots me with it. Sadly, I shoot it better than I do my XD-40 or my PT911 (above). While his pistol has only had about a thousand rounds through it, there have been no failures. It points well, and the sights are quite usable. And I shoot it better than a pistol for which I paid nearly five times as much. So, against the impulse of my instincts and my sense of aesthetics, I will recommend the C-9, based solely on objective performance.

If you ask me for my top-of-the-list suggestion, I have to go the the Kahr P9. The workmanship is excellent. It holds and points well. It makes a group inside a three-inch circle at 25 yards. Probably do two inches if I were a better shot. I'll bet Bob Smith (FRGC) could do it, 'cuz he nearly managed it with my PT911. Me, I can hit things. Bob, on the other hand, can actually shoot. Consistently. Accurately. Embarrassingly.

Wow, I can't believe no one has recommended a SIG. I was in your same position a couple months ago, did a lot of research and held and shot a lot of different guns. Ultimately I decided on a SIG Sauer P229 and I couldn't be happier. I shot a Glock and just didn't like it, I guess the 2 FTF's I experienced while shooting it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I flip flopped a bunch of times between the SIG P226 and the P229, the only difference mainly being the P226 is about .5" longer. The fact that the new P229's have the same 15 round capacity as the P226 eventually swayed me in it's favor. I've put 250 rounds through it so far and haven't had a single problem. I prefer the heavier steel/alloy frame guns but if you prefer the polymer frame I would take a close look a the SIG SP2022, it is probably one of SIG's most underrated pistols and at a really nice price ($400).

Well I guess I would have to go old school here.
I believe being around since 1935 is a good starting point.
Quality , ergonomics , reliability and just a piece of art are some of my reasons.
The Browning High Power chosen by elite forces around the world as one of the best. There are several configurations to choose from. made in various countries, Israel . Belgium, Portugal and Brazil under license.
13-15 round magazine is a plus and holsters and accessories are easy to find.
Price range should be from $350 on up depending on what you choose to spend.
Another plus is you can always sell it and at least break even. Or even get another one for your weak hand.
Let us know how it works out please.

hi-point.

because wacki is as wacki does.

i don't own one but i did stay at a holiday-inn once.

I am disappointed at the lack of respect towards the Ruger P95. Great full size 9mm at a price slightly less than the OP specified. I own one and would buy a few more if I had the money to. Shoots great, Ruger rugged, great quality...

Some relatively economical options...

Kahr P9, black, night sights if you've got the cash
Kahr CW9 I'd you're on a budget

Both are compact enough for CCW, reliable once broken in and as accurate as 99% of shooters will ever need.

German police trade in Sig P6

If you are looking for something in an all metal frame, then a great choice. I kick myself for not getting one when they were plentiful.

Ruger P95

Cheap, rugged, reliable, often overlooked.

I don't own any of these but all are on my wish list.

I vote Hi Point. Cuz it meets your criteria and I want to see if you actually stick to your word. :)

If I could only own one, and it had to do as a CCW it would be a G19 Glock or a CZ PCR, I own both, trust both. If I could only own one platform, it would be the 1911. If I could only own 1 platform and brand it would be a tie between Glock I own G17, G19, G34, G35 and STI 1911s I currently own 2. My best shooting pistol, is an STI Trojan 9mm, $999, but I can get 2 used Glocks for 1 STI. Glocks are very easy to get parts and accessories, easy to modify and magazines are as inexpensive as they come. It would be easier to use a brick than CC a Highpoint, or easier to find Bigfoot than find a magazine in a LGS for a H&K P7, probably cheaper too.

Browning Hi Power... can be gotten used for 5-600 in decent shape and it's a classic to boot. If you don't know, then do some homework on it. I prefer it over the 1911, though a ballester molina would be a very good compromise between the two. I have a BHP.. love it. I've had a FEG P9r, which externally is a HP clone, internally it is a smith model 59 clone... dead nuts reliable and just as accurate as the BHP (the only reason I don't recommend it is the whole FEG not in business any more thing)

Beretta 92 .. good schtuff. Very reliable and generally accurate enough. I want one

Sig P229 -known reliable, good gun

CZ 75 - Reliable, relatively inexpensive, accurate. I want one.

Glock - reliabilities poster child, relatively inexpensive, accurate. I passed up a glock in favor of a cz 2075, but that was an ergonomics thing, not a knock on glock by any means.

everything I listed here will do your headshot at combat distances and be very reliable. They range from 350 - 750 (used and new) in good condition.

Glock 19

I have owned two of them in the past and they are drop dead reliable. The only reason that I don't currently own one is that I prefer the 40 S&W round so I own two Glock 23's. I will probably buy another 19 just for the cheap practice ammo.

I prefer the size of the 19 over the larger 17 and the smaller 26. It conceals easily with 15 rounds in the mag and you can carry G22 mags for spares. The 26 is too small for me and really isn't that much easier to conceal.

Buy the G19, you really won't regret it.

CZ 75 - give me 9 pts , I got 3

But every one should have a highpoint.

If I were to buy 1 and only 1 9mm it would likely be a CZ 75, or a Hi-Power.

Although at the moment I have have 2 9mms neither of which is a CZ75 or Hi-Power. My guns are range toys and home defense only though.

Walther P99ASC or 99AS

I own it and use it. Best ergonomics of any pistol I have ever fired. Accurate and then some. Most reliable pistol I have ever owned or used. More reliable then a M9, 226, 229, FNx, FNP, and Glock 17 and 19.

Its what Glock aspires to when they design a handgun to be as good as Walther. Currently they are kind of sort almost as good.

Hi-point, cuz, if you don't know what you want, you may as well get this.

or a Howdah Pistol...

If you seriously buy a carry gun based on what you find on the internet.... you may as well get the hi-point. You REALLY need to head down to your local gun shop and take a look at the offerings. You need to hold them, see which fits better in YOUR hands, not in some internet commando's hand. Even better... rent a few of them, see what you like, what you don't. Look at whether you want a safety, where it needs to be... slide, frame or trigger... so many decisions....

You need to think about how you are going to carry the gun... IWB? OWB, Strong side? then you need to find the pistol that fits this best. if you go IWB, then you may need a thinner pistol. OWB, you may get away with a thicker one.

But, don't come on the interweb and expect anything more than a bunch of yahoos spouting off on every pistol made this or last century. Look at what you have now... you have suggestions for every single pistol made.

Congrats!

So, my suggestion is Every single pistol made in the last 150 years. Yep, you need to buy every single one of them, with all variants, in all finishes. or a howdah pistol....

CZ 75, XD, XDM, Glock, 3rd Gen Smith, in no particular order. All good solid guns that won't break the bank.

No one can choose wisely for you. In the end, only you can choose. :)

Glock 19. Because once I owned (still do) one and gave it an honest chance, it became one of my favorites. Glocks are ugly, but they work pretty well. I know that I can go buy one, slap on my favorite set of sights and be satisfied.

XDM I no longer own it, but it was just fine. I just happened to prefer the glock.

CZ 75 Don't own one (yet), but I have fondled them on numerous lunch breaks and I've shot a couple hundred rounds through one. It's a really nice handgun for the money.

RIA 9mm Tactical 1911
. Because I want to buy one for plinking and I'd like to read a few more reviews. :neener:

Once we're done choosing your gun for you, do we get to pick your wife?

You need to decide this for yourself. We can't do it for you.

I prefer practical pistols in the CCW or service style but will take recommendations for anything.

My call would be to go for the Kahr K9.

It's your first 9mm, the Kahr is so beautifully made, that you'll have it forever if you want. It's a tough, very rugged, all steel beauty of a gun. Really top notch in every respect. It's accurate, recoil is very pleasurable, points beautifully and naturally, conceals IWB or OWB like it's not even there, and just has a great subjective "feel" to it IMHO.
Here's where we might get the extra point to turn this into a 3 point reply.

I own a K40, the .40cal sibling of the K9. I won't trade that gun in, ever. It has never had a malf of any kind. I can look at an object (like a light switch) across the room, then close my eyes and point the gun at the object. When I open my eyes, the sights are always lined up dead center where I wanted. There's only one other gun that has ever been THAT natural to me (Ruger SP101 3" with Hogue monogrip). My S&W M&P9 is a very close second.

The K9/40 also seems to have a grip that fits everyone's hand like it was made for them.

I vote get a CZ 75 or 75b. Why? Because out of the box it is one of the most accurate pistol and it is DA/SA so you can carry it hammer down or cocked and locked whichever you prefer. I own a CZ 75b and it's my CCW because of its natural point of aim and the fell in my hand, also super reliable and I have no problems betting my life on it going off.

Tho I do think you should probably pick a handgun that is the best for you and not everyone else, like the glock 19 is a great pistol but for me the grip angle is all wrong so there is a lot of be said about personal preference.

Jericho, "baby eagle" Why? Because the IDF issued it, and they've been fighting for 2,000 years....
