i want to get new sights for my glock 17 i was wondering if anyone had any type of experience with the hein straight 8's i think or how about ghost ring type sights? i want at least the front sight to be a night sight... and also anyone willing to trade a crimson trace laser grip for a tlr-2 ive had it for about a year and it has seen minor use...

check out the xs 24/7 night sights, imho and many others, they are the best sights on the market for defense. they are fast on target they are bright day and night and they are easy to use. there is an instructional video on youtube by James Yeager from Tactical response they are super easy to instal on the glock line of guns, as a matter of fact even i the non gun smithing guy can do them with no problem.

I've got the taurus 1911 with straight 8 sights and a g17. ease of use is the same. but in my opinion sights are sights and if they're not adjustable I've got no use for them. My reloads never hit point of aim :(

I use regular Heinies on my Glocks, I have Heinie straight 8s on my USPf 9. They're really excellent sights, Very clean sight picture, the straight 8s are very easy to line up, and it far surpasses the crappy sights on the stock Glocks.

Ghost rings... eeh, not so much :uhoh:

I had straight 8 sights with front NS. Doesn't do a damn thing for me. I prefer a blacked out rear and FO front sight. Gets me on target fast.

hmmm yeah i shot a a friends springfield 1911 GI and it had straight 8's on it and i liked them im just wanted something that makes target transitions quick easy and accurate.

I'm the weird one that prefers the stock GLOCK sights. I have tried everything else imaginable and nothing is faster or easier for me to use than the dot and "U" configuration.

yeah i just recently shot that 1911 with straight 8's on it and i liked it but we could not rapid fire at the range or no place to transition targets so i didnt REALLY get to test them ya know?
yeah the stock sights are good but im not sure on what position im supposed to hold on them for true accuracy people keep telling me different ways like the front site in the middle or half the dot in the u and what not.

Get the straight 8s. Skip the ghost ring gimmick. I shot with a blacked out rear and fiber/tritium combo front for a long time but I like the rear dot of my Heinies for reference when it is really low light.

I'm with you on this.

To the OP, I've tried the Straight 8's and just wasn't fast and accurate enough with it. It might work for you though. I recommend nite sights on any handgun that will be used for defensive roles. It just goes w/o saying... You can't hit if you can't aim. Same goes w/ getting a good white-light, whether it'd be weapon mounted or hand-held. Good luck!

yeah it is a defense pistol i already have a streamlight tlr-2 im wanting to trade it for a crimson trace or somthing though.

Ghost ring night sights IMO work very well for quick target acquisitions, but the set I have on my g17 get a bit drowned out with a rail mounted light if I'm in the dark. The two dots on the ring aren't great night sights, but I have had worse and I like them a lot during the day. Take into consideration the size and the fact they are snag prone if you planning on everyday carry

To those that like stock Glock sights, I guess you have never seen a front sight fall off. The fixed rears are adequate although I block out the white crap with a sharpie, did that for years with an Aero-tek Tritium/fiber front. The stock fronts fall off, the adjustable rears fall apart. Get real sights.
