so you're the guy that bought a gen4....
Yep, that's me...one of the very few. Die-hard Glock-heads seem to hate the Gen4 or RTF models. Die-hard anti-Glock-heads hate any Glock. I just thought I'd take home the red headed stepchild that no one wants.
My reasons for buying it were simple.
- I no longer own a 9mm.
- I do not, nor have I ever owned a piece of tactical tupperware.
- I need a new "go to hell/truck lock box/drag it through the dirt/ready for the zombie invasion" gun
- I wanted to see what all the fuss about owning a Glock was about.
- Well, because I can.
Now I haven't had time to hit the range, so I can't give an honest opinion about THIS Glock. I've shot many Glocks in the past and found them to be nice guns and accurate.
Here's what I can tell you:
- The Gen4 17 feels better to me in my hands
- The RTF finish isn't rough enough for me, I'm used to aggressive checkering in steel and wood.
- I still hate the grip angle. I need lots of practice. When drawing and dry firing, my muscle memory is geared for a 1911 which puts the front sight anout 1/2" too high.
- The mag release is a huge improvement in my eyes.
It's just like any other Glock I've ever seen. It's ugly as homemade sin IMO. I don't buy into the "perfection" crap. Nor am I sold on the rumors that it is a "form follows function" design. I like Glocks, but there is no reason for the slide to be that blocky, there is enough material there to smooth and blend the sharp edges. /end my opinion on design
Assuming all goes well when I put a few hundred rounds through it, I'm sure I'll love it. I may even end up with a 19 to carry. Until I fix that pesky drawing and placing the sights on target problem, I'm more comfortable with my 1911's for carry.
Is the angle bad or horrible? Absolutely not, I'm just not used to it as I grew up learning to shoot on a 1911. Try changing 20+ years of learned muscle memory.
There...that's pretty unbiased. I also own several other handguns. I feel they all have their strengths and weaknesses. I don't feel that any one design is over all superior to others. Like someone else said, we all support the 2nd amendment so there is no need to throw stones at someone over their preferences. We should respect others' opinions and recognize our choice in personal favs is not a fact set in stone that should apply to everyone. /gets off soapbox
