Glocks aren't the best.....

when your 1911 has a 13 round mag, let me know.

Sorry, had to be the smart guy.

:)

Seriously, I own many pistols. It's nice that my Glock holds 17 rounds. However, the 5 rounds in my 38 snubby are more than sufficient for a defensive carry. If I'm a cop walking the beat, yeah I want at least 3 13+ round mags ready to go. For concealed carry, I'm likely to only ever need more than 1 or 2 shots in a real world defensive situation. My 1911's and revolvers will server that purpose well. Just my humble opinion...

Is it wrong that My wife and I bought 2 pistols at the same time....I picked up a Full sized .45acp M&P, and she got a Glock 23 :O!!!

:neener:Anyone who needs 13 rounds of .45acp to hit whatever they're shooting at has got a problem...
Tell that to anyone who has ever been in combat. Not that I have. Now back as to this whole discussion Glock vs _____ , AR vs AK, AR vs Mini 14, etc. Why does it matter? We all support the 2A and that is what really matters.

so you're the guy that bought a gen4....

Yep, that's me...one of the very few. Die-hard Glock-heads seem to hate the Gen4 or RTF models. Die-hard anti-Glock-heads hate any Glock. I just thought I'd take home the red headed stepchild that no one wants.

My reasons for buying it were simple.
  1. I no longer own a 9mm.
  2. I do not, nor have I ever owned a piece of tactical tupperware.
  3. I need a new "go to hell/truck lock box/drag it through the dirt/ready for the zombie invasion" gun
  4. I wanted to see what all the fuss about owning a Glock was about.
  5. Well, because I can.

Now I haven't had time to hit the range, so I can't give an honest opinion about THIS Glock. I've shot many Glocks in the past and found them to be nice guns and accurate.

Here's what I can tell you:
  1. The Gen4 17 feels better to me in my hands
  2. The RTF finish isn't rough enough for me, I'm used to aggressive checkering in steel and wood.
  3. I still hate the grip angle. I need lots of practice. When drawing and dry firing, my muscle memory is geared for a 1911 which puts the front sight anout 1/2" too high.
  4. The mag release is a huge improvement in my eyes.

It's just like any other Glock I've ever seen. It's ugly as homemade sin IMO. I don't buy into the "perfection" crap. Nor am I sold on the rumors that it is a "form follows function" design. I like Glocks, but there is no reason for the slide to be that blocky, there is enough material there to smooth and blend the sharp edges. /end my opinion on design

Assuming all goes well when I put a few hundred rounds through it, I'm sure I'll love it. I may even end up with a 19 to carry. Until I fix that pesky drawing and placing the sights on target problem, I'm more comfortable with my 1911's for carry.

Is the angle bad or horrible? Absolutely not, I'm just not used to it as I grew up learning to shoot on a 1911. Try changing 20+ years of learned muscle memory.

:D

There...that's pretty unbiased. I also own several other handguns. I feel they all have their strengths and weaknesses. I don't feel that any one design is over all superior to others. Like someone else said, we all support the 2nd amendment so there is no need to throw stones at someone over their preferences. We should respect others' opinions and recognize our choice in personal favs is not a fact set in stone that should apply to everyone. /gets off soapbox

I have recently gotten back into the shooting sports after about a 15 year absence. My girlfriend is also very interested so we were off to buy at least 2 pistols. When I was shooting in PPC events I used revolvers so I am used to shooting DA so I started looking into DA autos. OMG how do you shoot the Glocks or the S&W's with those trigger pulls? I really like the concept of both companies but the actions feel like cement mixers. We took home a used Colt Government and a custom built Colt Combat Commander. :)

You will never/ever regret that decision, over the Glock! When and if you ever decide to sell, the Ben Franklins you receive will be proof of the wise decision......Choose wisely.....You have!

As much as I dislike the Glock and like the M&P, both have after market services and parts available which serve to make their triggers pretty darn respectable. Not 1911 class, (and anyone who has ever claimed such is a fool), but pretty darn good when compared to a stock trigger for the respective model.

I thought I wanted the extra magazine capacity but not at the expense of accuracy. More rounds down range only count when they hit the target right?

There will never be a finer trigger than a 1911 breaking at 3 1/2 pounds. It just can't be beat. To expect otherwise is unrealistic. :)

I love my 1911's. That being said, all the Glocks I have ever shot were pretty accurate. I shot more accurately with my 1911's, but the glock still got the job done pretty well. I do hate that trigger pull. I've heard good things about aftermarket trigger setups like at rockyourglock. I'll have to give that a try eventually.

I own a glock now, but until I feel comfortable drawing and putting lead on target quickly and accurately...I'll keep carrying my 1911. At this point, it is the shooter who hasn't adapted to the gun. I see nothing wrong with the Glock, I'm just not used to it yet.

To the OP.

People like what they use, and use what they like. If that makes them "fanboys", then so be it. Move on dude. This horse died a long time ago, decomposed, and grew into a tree.

"Read it and weep".

The most popular class in IDPA is SSP and requires a DA Pistol so those result are not at all surprising lol

I'm to old to be in a pissing contest just adding my reason for buying what I did. lol

I own Colts, Kimbers and Glocks...along with some s&w revolvers. Lol...does this mean I'm in a pissing contest with myself? Just great....my girlfriend was right about my split personalities. :banghead:

Glocks...

I like Glocks, but probably wouldn't buy one at this point. There are simply too many high quality polymer pistols on the market.

I personally prefer M&Ps and XDs.

Glocks are good, solid pistols that are not quite as durable as they're reputation implies, nor are they as quite as reliable. Having said that, I'd actually consider buying a G19, if I was looking for a ccw. Those compact Glocks are pretty nice. How many compact pistols give you a 4" barrel and 15 round capacity in such a small package.

I don't think that Glocks are the best hand guns for maintenance. Try looking a stainless steel ruger DA revolver. Those revolvers almost never go out of time. The coil springs are extremely heavy and probably would never need to be changed. Just clean the gun and there really should never be any additional maintance on the gun.

From Leon's link:

1st Glock 34 9mm 52 (Next to no one in real life carries this pig, but it fits in the box. IDPA just becoming another game? You don't say. . . .)
2nd Glock 17 9mm 32 (Or this one. The G19 is the CC piece, but no one glamorous competes with it? Been on the market since 1980.)
3rd S&W M&P 9mm 24 (Been on the market 4.5 years and is actually concealable.)

With the 5" M&P Pro coming on line to compete with the G34, along with gunsmithing and DIY know-how on the pistol becoming widespread, it will be interesting to see a similar list in 2015.

This really is a "HATE" thread disguised as something useful. I guess it's OK to hate Glock around here. That's OK. It's expected that people will always take shots at whoever is the big man on top. :)

"Interesting that those guns are so popular in IDPA. I thought 1911's were the ticket for "pistol games"??????"

The most popular class is DA only so 1911's allowed

And some people will eventually blow their junk to hell carrying a Glock in a "Smart" Carry.:p

You got it! If this had been 1911's aren't the best... it would have been locked long ago.
