:confused:Is is it my imagination or is Glock firearms sort of fading out of favor. Not too long ago all one heard was how great Glocks were, but not things seem to have gone quiet. Just wondering. Thanks.

They are still great, but others have really stepped out their game.

An M&P is every bit as durable and trustworthy and more asthetically pleasing. Then you have much cheaper models like the Ruger SR9 that are very good and half the price.

Another big thing is that it seems 1911's are getting really popular, more than typical and the killer IMO is with CCW laws getting better and people more interested in protecting themselves, the Pocket guns like the Beretta Nano, Ruger LCP, Ruger LC9, S&W Body Guard, Sig P380 ect are really making a dent in the market.

Just my opinion.

There are many new polymer pistols in the world today that can do everything the Glock can, and some things that it can't. I would guess mainly, how it feels in ones hand.

Heck, it only took 20 years for the other guys to play catch up...I do still love my Glocks but the S&W MP40 is a comfortable feeling and shooting sidearm.

I'm looking for a poly .40, years ago I would have gone Glock, now I'm going to give an XD 40 Service model a go.

They've definitely got some pretty stiff competition nowadays that they didn't have before, but I doubt Glock is going anywhere until we switch to handguns that shoot frikkin' laser beams.

Glockers are just gonna have to learn how to share the market is all :)

The big shift in Glock popularity will be when we start to lots of LE agencies making a switch. The masses seem to follow what the cops carry.

I love my Glock19 but seem to love my XD40 more. It aims more naturally and I actually have better groupings with it. I bet it also is as reliable and duarable as the venerable Glock. But because of the Glock's history I can't get rid of it. My XD40 is my sidearm whenever I hunt.

Really, look at all the poll's every poll that involves glock, glock wins haha.
they are the top polymer striker fired auto, as well duty firearm.

The 4th generation problems have tarnished their reputation. If it was between a 4th gen. and an M&P or XD.I would go with the M&P or XD.Luckily for me all the glocks i currently own are 3rd generation.I have more confidence in my 3rd gen. glocks than other semi autos costing much more.

I don't really see how they're fading away. Glock is still the main LE pistol, and no other company offers a deal close to Glock's LE pricing... Police officers and cadets can get a Glock and 3 mags for $399. Pricing for departments is even less. I think Glock may lose popularity with the civilian market because of more affordable options ( better is certainly an opinion) but I think their hold on the LE market is pretty firm. While the M&P is gaining some ground, I don't think it will de-throne Glock for a long time.

m&p's are doing well. that's because they are a good firearm. M&P's are also well with law enforcement because they have a deal with agencies. It's called if you buy handguns from us, we give you rifles.
It's that simple. NC HP did this for this simple reason.

I really like the Glocks I have, but I recently bought a S&W M&P40 Pro
4" that is really a nice feeling and shooting firearm.

Folks have no problem raising a big fanfare when they purchase that first micro sized carry gun.

They don't trumpet from the rooftops when they gain experience and come to the realization that their lil pocket rocket is only slightly better than the proverbial sharp pointy stick. After wich they quietly change over to the g26 or 19 everyone told them to buy in the first place.

i have a couple glocks and like them just fine. but yes, their popularity does seem to waning. whenever i go to shoot competitively, it always seems that i am very out-numbered, typically by xd's and 1911's. if i were to start all over again, i think i would have gone with either a sig, or an xd because now that i reload, all i seem to shoot is lead, and with the glock, i have to buy an aftermarket barrel.

Glock isn't suffering any.... Hell, I voted for the Sig to help balance it out on this poll lol

Now that S&W fixed the M&P trigger, Glock will face even stiffer competition.

I mean, why would any "left" handed shooter buy a Glock when M&P comes with ambi slide lock, ambi mag release and ambi safety?

For reloaders wanting to shoot lead without issues, M&P has conventional square cut land/groove rifling ... Glock still has hexagonal rounded hill/valley rifling with long leade not really compatible with lead bullets.

Shooters with smaller hands will love the small grip insert of M&Ps (my wife loves it on the M&P45). Yes, Gen4 Glocks have removable back strap, but they are not for sale in California! We can only buy Gen3 Glocks ... :fire:

Keep in mind that this is coming from a Glock fan. I still like them ... but growing to love M&P40/45 even more.

Can we talk about mag release and "drop-free" Glock mags?

OK, let's not.

I want competition against Glock. The more the better. I say this because I want Glock to get off their A##es and start bringing more to the table. The Gen4 "band aid" back straps was a joke, IMO. Then the Gen4 dual recoil spring assembly that I dont recall anyone asking for. Not to mention the recent production changes that are said to have led to the ejection issues. I do like the RTF3 and the magazine release though.

I feel as if Glock is slipping. I have carried Glocks for a while now and I do like them for the tools they are. They are starting to slowly lose my loyalty though. I am seeing so much room for improvement, but I am not seeing any progress, just half stepping and back tracking.

Maybe its just me.

Their popularity in the civilian market may be fading, but they continue to dominate the LE market at over 60%. There are several other good Polymer guns out there, but for LE use the manual/grip safety that some have are a deal breaker.

Inebriated,

That poll is interesting on several fronts. First, Glocks lead as far as specific models go. Yet when you actually look at the data, the hammer-fired pistols actually received more votes than the combined striker-fired pistols. Polymer pistols only slightly edged metallic-framed pistols. And that list did not include the vaunted 1911 as a voting option.

Glocks aren't going away, but striker-fired isn't all the rage. Diversity of ownership and preferences remain.

There is no shortage of people buying Glocks from what I've seen. I think it does currently and will continue to enjoy popularity among civilian and police alike.
