I am thinking of getting a FN FNP9 new for $350, not including shipping and FFL fee. It comes with (3) 16-round magazines. I consider that a pretty good deal.

But I think there are other good deals for a quality 9mm pistol out there. Something that is better than the hi-Points and such for little $$$$.

I saw a S&W 910 and 915 at the gunshow for about $350. MAYBE a used Glock for $400 or less.

Other suggestions?

BHP is THE 9mm and will always be the gun others look up to.

S&W did quality proven 9mms. Some of these are great buys as these do not get the attention they once did.

Beretta has some offerings, besides 92s. Older ones, and great guns.

Do your homework, carry cash, play dumb, and don't hoot and holler on a great deal until a mile down the road.

Used in either:

1) Glock 17

2) Glock 19

3) Browning High Power

I present only these because I have the most experience with them, and have been fully pleased with them.

maybe a used glock? they arent pretty and certainly are not my favorite gun, but they are reliable and relatively inexpensive.

Used glock 17 or 19, used S&W M&P, used Browning Hi Power. I've heard good things about the FNP line, so take a look at those as well. Some others would be used Beretta 92 or Springfield XD.

I went through this whole "what 9mm should I get" for over 3 months. I looked at all sorts of guns, glocks, xds, taurus, beretta, and then the brand CZ came into the light. I am telling you you can not beat the cz value, I got the cz 75b stainless model and it is the best gun purchase I think anyone can make. The stainless model is a little more expensive the regular model but I am a sucker for stainless. Anyways CZ is a little known brand in the outside forum world. But the cz 75b is the best full size 9mm on the market in my opinion, even better then sigs that I rented to shoot. Anyways hope you do your research and pick one awsome gun. Good Luck!

I have four suggestions:

Taurus 24/7 9mm
CZ 75
S&W Sigma

Now this one isnt high cap but it has 10+1 capabilities, it may even have a higher cap mag, I'm not for sure. I have handled one and it has great ergomonics.

Bersa Thunder 9mm

Range gun- CZ75 16+1
CCW- G19 15+1

These are my high caps, 100% reliable, the CZ can be done for $400, new. The G19, $400, lightly used:)

I bought my G19 used with night sights for less than $400. It's been a flawless shooter for over 2 years.

Wow, I can't believe no one has mentioned SIG.....last I looked (and it has been a while), there were about a bazillion police trade in 226's out there, right about the $400 mark. I believe they are factory refurbished, too.

I'd take a factory refurb'd P226 over anything mentioned in this thread so far.....

I'd like to know where you guys are getting BHP's for $400, I'll buy a crate of em.

So would I, but I don't believe I've seen many CPO's that cheap.

I just bought a 2nd gen GLOCK 17 with a 1000 rounds of surplus 9mm for $300. The gun is basically in like new condition. There are good deals out there just be patient.

Not sure if you can still find them for $399, but I bought two Smith & Wession M&Ps for that price. Bought one of them just recently on Gunbroker.com. With shipping and transfer, that's about $440.

I think Bud's is selling them for $439 (with free shipping). That would probably put you at about $459-464 with transfer.

Another vote for the Ruger P95. I got mine 3 years ago new for $349 (plus Ruger had a $40 mail in rebate!) and it's been flawless in close to 2500 rounds.

Not the prettiest gun, but 100% reliable, easy clean, and mags are available everywhere.

Next would be a cz75, then if you can find a Glock in your area for your price, you can't go wrong.

Used Glocks are pretty expensive here in Maryland.

The under $400 price limit really does cut down on the options. In my neck of the woods, you're not getting a new CZ-75 or a used Glock 17/19 out the door for under $400 unless you really hit on a good deal.

Pretty much the only options I can think of new-in-box for under $400 would be some that have already been mentioned (Ruger, S&W Sigma, Taurus), plus the Tanfoglio CZ-clones (EAA Witness here in the US) and the 9mm Bersa Thunders (not the same pistol as their .380s -- this one is based more or less on the Walther P-88). I don't have any experience with S&W Sigmas, Tanfoglios, or Bersa Thunder 9s, but a search of the site here will reveal some threads about all of them. What experience I have with Taurus and Ruger was pretty positive -- neither one would make my favorite list, but both seem to go bang reliably in my experience with them.

I see a used one for $400 every once in a while, but it is usually a real beater and possibly has benefitted from someone's half-assed attempts at gunsmithing (last one I saw for $400 included a hammer bobbed level with the back of the slide :barf:). Otherwise, they usually go around $600, used, at gun shows . . .

So would I, but I don't believe I've seen many CPO's that cheap.

Cheapest I've seen on a used, good condition Sig (think they were CPOs, didn't check that closely) was $450 for 226s and 229s.
