Ruger P95, less than $350 new, and with 15 round factory or 17 or 20 round MecGar mags, they are stone cold reliable and definitely "hi-cap".

cdnn is currently selling 5906s for 299. id take that over the less refined sigmas and rugers being recommended. they are universally recognized as being reliable and durable. mine even has a nice trigger.

note though, these are not for carry. they are large and very heavy.

I agree ....a good holster is the key...I currently use a comander 1911 in a fobus paddle holster the weight of the 5906 cant be much different than that of the 1911

How do the 5906 and p95 compare in reliability .....?????..........those seem to be the cheaper of the ones on the thread ....if the reliability is there.

I can tell you the 5906 is about a reliable as you can get. I, along with 60 of my closest friends, used them as duty weapons. We rarely ever had any trouble out of them. If we ever had malfunctions on the shooting like, the problem could nearly always be traced back to a faulty mag...just like the problems with a lot of other semis.

Well, I've set up one of mine to eat cases once upon a time for the heck of it 'cause I read it some were on the Interweb. It worked BTW.

Brass cased ammo in it is flawless. Steel cased ammo - gotta clean the chamber every 300 so rounds. Don't have to clean the entire gun - just the chamber, otherwise it suffers FTE.

Keep in mind that the 59xx series with the exception of the 59xxTSW is a combat pistol. It gets everything on a pie plate at 25 yards. With the TSW series, man - it is as close to a custom gun as you can get from out of the box.

BTW, I have over a dozen of these things in one variation or another. I guess you can call me a fanboy. :D

I've another suggestion for a pistol under $400. Larry's Pistol and Pawn, in Huntsville, has had several used XD9s for sale; I believe they're wanting roughly $350 for them. Larry's also has several S&W 3rd Generation 9mm pistols for roughly the same price.

ROLL TIDE! :D

BTW, there's a guy on this board, by the name of AlaDan who, I believe, works at, or owns, a gun shop in Birmingham. He might be able to steer you on a good deal for a P95, 5906, or an XD9.

Sigma in 9 or 40

Smith will smooth up the trigger at not cost on either a new or used gun.

And they'll get it back to you within a couple of weeks.

OR just shoot it a lot till is smooths up a bit and works perfectly fine for SD and not range accuracy.

Last two I bought were between $200-$225 used and like new.

Be vigilant and bargain hard and you can own two, hicap Sigma's for $400.

I would say the best thing to do would be go to a local gun show and hold the guns your thinking about I have found that after holding some of the guns I was thinking about getting I changed my mind.

Sig SP2022. Half the cost and every bit as good as the high price gun (HK , Sigs etc ). Very accurate and reliable.
