If I remember correctly, the original Sigma was a copy of GLOCK. So it would be an ok gun. The SD9 looks like a nice gun and also has a lot of hints from the GLOCK. I personally don't think any of the offerings from Smith will be anything but good guns. As for the Taurus 24/7, i wanted one for quite awhile but in my interwebs lookings, I found too many bad stories about Taurus guns in general. That was seconded by my local gun store so I have stayed away from the Taurus stuff.

That being said, my brother has the Taurus version of the Beretta 92 and it has been flawless.

Needing a good hi cap pistol 9mm .40 or .45 on a strict budget ....suggestions.....please no "glocks are great homers .....I know there great......thanks.
Nightstand/car/truck gun, or carry?

If you don't have to lug it around, the butt ugly heavy cheap HiPoint's are tough to beat. Cheap, reliable, go BANG when you pull the trigger. But .. you won't be showing it off to anyone!

How much dose the p95 5906 weigh compared to the 1911 I currently carry ?
5906 is 38 oz empty about 44-45 ounces fully loaded depending on cartridge type. Depending on the 1911 you have it is pretty much the same weight empty. The difference will be cartridges. You can use either as a club empty. :D

I way it as a all around gun carry & nightstand
Ok, since carry is in the cards, I personally would scratch the 5906 off your list. I bet if you look around, you can find a ruger SR9 for $400. They are reliable, hold 17rds in the mag, and are slimmer through the grip (you know, the part that matters for carry) than any other double stack 9.

Ya know, as much of a 5906/5946 fanboy, I would have to say that if I would be carrying it all day long I'd go with something a little lighter, too.

Woods & Water has them for 400$ ....9% tax may put them over budget. :(
We're talking about like $38. Can you cut your budget somewhere else for a bit to get that extra? The SR9 is, imo, going to be a better choice than everything else listed here when carry is a role for this gun. The P95 that many have suggested is huge in comparison, and I much prefer the SR9 to the awful triggered Sigma.

I do note that you can get S&W to do a free trigger job on a sigma, but I have yet to handle one with it done, so I can't say whether it truly fixes the trigger or not.

Another option is to look around for a used G19 or G23. They're out there for under $400, for sure.

Ruger P series. If they fit your hand these are good solid reliable guns. These can often be had for well under $400 and while they are not as ergonomic as some of the newer designs, they get the job done.

SD9 all the way. The trigger is way improved over the Sigma and has great ergos. Mine eats everything reliably, feels slim for carry, and even comes with a front night sight. What more could a guy want for under $400?
Although if an extra $38 is a big deal, you might not want to get started with pistols as they are addictive and ammo is crazy spendy!

97-03 thanks for your service!

Every pistol mentioned in this thread all have merit.

I have a Sigma 9VE. And mine is a fine weapon. The trigger is heavy. But there main issue is gritty. S&W will not do a free trigger job! They might smooth it up a tad. One of there warranty stations got into trouble for going all out for folk concerning Sigma trigger issues. If you are good with stones and polishing you can slick up Sigma trigger.

With all that useless stuff said. I would really look into a SD9. A better trigger than a Sigma, front night sight, great egro's, well finished and a life time no cost no BS warranty if that's important to you.

Ruger SR series. My LGS has them that come out to right at $400 OTD.

Ruger's SR serries gets my vote too. I have the SR9, I think its a great gun. Ambidextrious safety, 17 rounds in the magazine, I've found mine to be reliable, and its accurate enough for me.

I use it as a carry/competition gun. For carry, I generally use an Uncle Mikes IWB holster, and while it doesn't exactly dissapear like a J-Frame/LCP, i can still conceal it pretty well.

I picked mine up used for 350.

All outstanding guns for what you are talking about.
Probably get 2 for $400.
Very very reliable.
Cheap set of Wolf Springs and you are in business for your lifetime.
9X18mm Mak round will stop anybody just as quick as a 9X19mm.

I must once again plug the Sig 2022 and add that you get 12+1 rounds of .40 caliber which makes an excellent nightstand or carry gun.

Right now there is a brand new one on gunbroker.com for a little over 300.00 and it ends in 18 hours.

It is SA/DA which makes it a very safe carry weapon and the SA trigger is so smooth you won't believe it. It has to be the best value in the world and it's a Sig... There is a big thread on the Sig forums with owners of the much more expensive steel Sigs (2XX series) saying that the Sigpro/2022 is just as nice to shoot.

You will thank me if you get this gun.

Oh, and pick up some Federal HST 180gr or Ranger Talon 165gr from Ammunition To Go and you have a very formidable defense pistol.

I love my cz82, 9x18. It olds 12+1. I bought it two years ago for about 195 along with another a Tokerev. I can shoot it as well as I can my thousand dollar modern pistols.

Eh, for $400 you can do "better." For $200, no, you can't touch the comm bloc stuff with anything modern and you're pretty dumb if you buy a hi point instead... but $400 will get you something newer (or new) with better sights, higher capacity, etc.
