Good things from New Orleans

I was speaking with a friend of mine who happens to be totally liberal. When we went to college together, he was very anti-gun and thought they should all be banned.

Anyway, we got onto the topics of guns and New Orleans, and he said "You know, that really make me think about getting a gun, just in case something like that happens here, especially with the flooding lately, it makes me think that it might be a good idea." (He lives in California, BTW).

As horrible as Katrina was, has anyone else noticed anything good coming from New Orleans?

Folk always think nothing bad will ever happen to them. It's always someone else far away and nobody they know. If that were true, why would anyone ever need to do something as horrible as defend them selves with deadly force, right?

Events like Katrina show them very bad things can happen to anyone, anywhere and with little warning. It's enough to get some folks thinking, "what if..."
