Gosh, I hate to ask the question (Glock vs XD)

If you want accessories to go with it, like threaded barrels and such, I'd go with Glock. Also consider pistol dimensions. XDs tend to be a little "thicker". The reason the fanboys are so adamant about Glock is because they really do work as advertised. The grip angle feels a little weird at first, but I just got used to it. I also trusted that the Austrian engineer knew better than me what my hand position should be.

My dad had an XD9. It was a very nice, well built weapon and had the best ergonomics of any gun. The only thing that was wrong was that we found that it wouldn't chamber hollow points. So, we sold it and got a G34. Now, that was an amazing gun.

Both are reliable.

I prefer the grip angle of the XD over the Glock, but won't argue with someone who shoots a Glock well. My Dad shoots an XD45 and loves it, my friend Ray shoots a Glock .45acp and feels the same way. Both are reliable, so go with whichever feels better to you.

I did have an extractor spring break within 200 rds, the gun was back to me in two weeks and has run perfect since (~700rds).

Does Springfield still require that XDs go back to the factory for servicing, even on a minor part like that?

The relative lack of parts and Springfield's required return for even minor issues is the one serious knock against XDs. Glock parts are readily available and user replaceable.

While glock parts are readily available and user replaceable, warranty work is much easier with Springfield. Their warranty is second to none.

Also, the fact that springfield listens to their customers suggestions *GASP* I know... wierd huh.

I prefer the XD due to the grip angle that I was raised using. I also carry a 1911 so changing grip angles on the fly like that between handguns causes POA-POI problems.

Warranty and customer service is outstanding. But, not every little issue will require a trip back. They have been know to ship out parts free of charge, and parts are becoming more readily available on the market. Check out PistolGear.com or XDGuys.com, they a have a good selection of factory parts.

Cool. They've changed their policy then. Not long ago, the factory would not send out parts and required all repairs to be done at the factory. I'm glad to see that's changed, as not everyone has the time or spare gear to send stuff back.

I just don't like the XD handling. I handled a 1911 and an XD isn't one. It is trying real hard though. :neener:

The grip safety (which I dislike on 1911's too) is almost painful for my hands, I find no size advantage or weight advantage over a steel gun.

The XD trigger is N I C E! !

I like my glock because it is a service weapon, mickey mouse take down and all. :D

I still dropped in a Tungsten Rod, 3.5lb connector and Seattle plug for comfortable shooting on range days with my G23, but I can shoot all day and it's not my carry weapon.

For an open carry tupperware .45, there's nothing wrong with an 4" XD or Glock 30sf I'm surprised there haven't been more sugestions for an FN or CZ.

The XD is good enough if that's what you like. No reason to "learn" the Glock.

I love my XD-45 Tactical it is a great pistol NO problems at all, and if it fits your hand, and is on target then not many other people or guns can contest that fact. But I am looking at getting a glock for my next.

Another XD fan- Fit and feel is worlds apart in my hands- I have close to 2500 rounds through the XD 40 and not one FTF, jam, anything. All sorts of ammo, FMJ an JHP all run fine.

I am sure some one will point out that Springfield is not a US company anymore but you can't deny the history behind the name. Good for the fore fathers- good for me.

Never Shot an XD, but I can tell you that my Glock 21C can shoot when it's dirty as heck.

Accuracy is good, and for me its always been easy to clean up.

I like the feel of the XD over the Glock. The safety features were important as well as the overall quality.

I hope I never have to use it for home defense, but if I do, I know that I will be grabbing a weapon that is going to work and that I'm comfortable with.

Shot my XD for the first time yesterday and loved it!

I own an XD40 Service pistol. I have a little over 15,000 rounds through the pistol with only one failure to feed and that was from an improperly seated factory round. The weapon is accurate, it is comfortable and has been incredibly reliable. I personally went with the XD because when I held both the XD and a comparable Glock the XD felt more comfortable in my hands.

That being said, you go with what is comfortable for you. The Glock and the XD are both excellent weapons with a history of being very reliable and you couldn't go wrong with either weapon.

Also, there has been a torture test similar to the Glock torture test done on the XD. XD Torture Test

Glocks work and are reliable, but so are the XDs. And besides that (call me crazy), but I think that Glocks look terrible.
I know, I know.. looks don't matter, but I just can't help but admire the visual appeal of the Springfield.
But in the final analysis, your adversary really won't care which one hit them.
The best fit for me is the Kimber 1911.

I only carry proven weapons as well.

My XD is proven.
My Kimber Custom II is proven.

Proven to me, after massive piles of empty brass, that they will not fail.

You couldn't just get a replacement spring and do it yourself?

I recently shot the Springfield XD-9, XD-45, and Glock 23 (all rentals).

  • The XD definitely felt better in my hand
  • The grip safety on the XD is very light and comfortable
  • Accuracy was very similar, all of them very good
  • The Glock was kinda dirty and had one FTF
At this point I would get an XD over a Glock. I look forward to trying the XD-M.

Make a simple, inexpensive test to decide.
1. Call Springfield Armory on their toll free line 800-680-6866 and ask for warranty information.
2. Try to find a phone number for Glock (Smyrna GA) and then try to talk to someone about warranty information. :neener:

I called SA and told the nice lady that when cleaning my XD 45 I like to remove the firing pin assy to clean it also but driving out the roll pin a few times would cause me to worry about damaging the roll pin and having an inoperable pistol.. She said "don't worry" and in two days I had half a dozen roll pins in my mail box at no charge.

OK, that's the ticket! It sounded like you have to send the XD in every single time there is an issue to have it repaired by Springfield.
