The book is finally printed, and the first shipment arrived at the publisher's offices yesterday. The first media copies went out to firearms media people with NRA, SAF, GOA, etc. Yes, Tom Gresham's went out the door today. Tom was kind enough to write a "blurb" for us. We've received many enthusiastic comments, and it will be interesting to see reactions when it is finally hitting the bookstores and on Amazon (probably about two weeks.)

In the meantime, if you are interested, the website is www.neworleansgungrab.com. If you want to know the true story of what happened in N.O. in the aftermath of Katrina, it's all here--Patty Konie, Ashton O'Dwyer, Buell Teel--their stories will amaze and outrage you. We spent over a year chasing leads and interviewing victims of the thuggish behavior and Gestapo tactics of the law enforcement contingents in New Orleans supposedly fighting crime--and instead, they made the lives of gun owners miserable. Read it--you will be amazed and outraged!

New Book--Great New Orleans Gun Grab

Thanks Fred...Todd is georgraphically much closer to the publisher than I am. I'm going to e-mail him and tell him to sign a copy for you when it is mailed out. We appreciate it, and I hope you enjoy the book.

Katrina and LEOs burning their reputations

LEO behavior in every agency (plus national Guard) during Katrina burned their credibility with me. I had to go from being a supporter to a sceptic. They really aren't protecting and serving nor upholding the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Tough time for the country. Criminal behavior by the LEOs is very unstabilizing and dangerous.

GaryMC...

Sorry...we only interviewed the victims--and the cops almost always refused to give their names or their badge numbers. This way, they could keep the guns. One cop, deposed by the SAF and NRA investigators, said words to this effect...it's quoted in the book, but this is close: "I'm ashamed to admit it, but most of the guys, if they were nice (the guns), they kept them. If they were crap, they threw them in the lake and canals."

That's why, in announced "give back" days forced by the federal courts at the behest of the SAF/NRA, of the thousand or so guns stored by NOPD, only a very few were returned to owners. We inventoried about 200 of the 800 or so they had left--we still have to go back down there, and conduct more inventories to try to get the guns back to the original owners.

But what they have stored is miniscule compared to the thousands that disappeared.

I'll buy the book. So that begs the question. If "they" came to your door, what would you do?

Manan...

That question was answered by Buell Teel. In an act of piracy, two St. Tammany Parish Deputies and two New York police officers pulled up to his boat in a St.Tammany water patrol boat, pointed guns at him and his brother, and ordered them to surrender their two rifles stored in the boat.

As Teel told us later, "Do you think those boys came all the way down from New York and didn't hope they'd get the chance to shoot someone?"

If you want to be a hero with AR-15s pointed at your chest, you can--you'll be a martyr to the cause. Better to wait and file a complaint with the courts as he did, through the SAF and NRA.

I will pick up one of these books if it hits a major retailer. I love books, don't get me wrong, but they're not worth shipping.

And if "they" come to my door, without a warrant, they'll be politely asked to return with one. If "they" come in my door, and I know I've done nothing illegal, well, I'll do everything legal within my power to defend myself, my family, and my rights. And that's about all I can say on that.

Fred is not my name , ! thought i was the one drinking!!

Living about 40 miles north of N.O. I was close enough to experience some of the hysteria.

I used to think all the threads on the gun boards about bug out bags or boxes and large amounts of "contingency ammo" was a little over the edge. Not anymore! Fortunately, my hunting, shooting, fishing hobbies and general outdoor lifestyle had me relatively prepared. I'll never let myself be that unprepared again.

Yes, my local WalMart quit selling guns and ammo.

The local mom and pops were sold out shortly after reopening of everything except the high dollar exotic type guns like 3K trap shotguns and a few bolt rifles. Even reloading supplies were tapped out. I guess that's an indicator of how many people don't think about self defense until it's too late.

All stuff you've heard before or can read in the book I'm sure.

I purchased one before I got to the end of this thread. Should come in just in time for my trip to Gunsite....:D

If "they" came to your door, what would you do?

If I was aware that they were going around "collecting" them, I would not hand them over. But, more realistically, you would be caught unaware of what was going on and not have time to react to defend your rights.

Better to wait and file a complaint with the courts as he did, through the SAF and NRA.

Wait to file a complaint? In this case there was no sinister end game planned, but what if there was? You have no idea what their intentions are when they seize your arms. Not to devolve the discussion, but the Nazi seized weapons before the holocaust began and nobody at the time thought that it would result in millions of deaths. While admittedly not applicable to this particular situation, hind site is always 20/20. At the time no one can know what their motives are.
