Gun snobbery

I hate to sound like a gun snob, but I often do. However, it depends on who I am talking to. If it is a newbie, I am just greatful that they are getting into the sport. Never would I go on some tirade about their gear; instead, I would congradulate them and happily invite them into the community.

However, I am less forgiving on people who have been in the "sport" for some period of time. There are some guns that people who know guns should just not own. And, there are some accessories that some gun enthusiasts should not own!

Some people try to find the cheapest way to "accessorize" guns like AR-15s and 870s. Yeah, it may work, but for how long? If you trust your life to such a weapon, then why settle for sub-par parts and workmanship? Go ahead and hang everything off your weapon that you can (like I do) but at least invest in good stuff so that it works when you need it to and it fits the fuction that it was intended for.

Newbies are cool. They are open minded and often understand what is going on. I was there once. Hell, it was probably a mere 4 years ago. Now, I have one helluva collection for someone my age (26).

I love newbies. If it weren't for them, the tradition would not go on!!! :D

I don't mind cheap guns. But there are some instances where cheap is not good. Such as in defensive weaponry, etc. There I WILL be a snob and say pay up front for the Surefire, a MiniMaglite ain't gonna cut it, etc.

Outshooting them is always fun. I shot skeet with an 18.5" no choke 870 12ga defensive shotgun next to a 15 year old kid with a custom fitted $15,000 Krieghoff o/u, who'd been shooting skeet for five years. I shot skeet maybe eight times before that. He shot a 22, I shot a 19 or a 20.

To say he was ticked that I nearly equaled his score with $14,700 less shotgun, 10" less barrel and no choke is an understatement...

I just told him it's not always the gun. The fact I'd been shooting longer than he'd been alive came into the conversation too. :)

Guns are like girls I like them tall, I like them small, I like them all.

I to can afford to own pretty much anything I want, even up to a megaexpensive double if I decided to sell some things items to finance it.

My last purchase was a Yugo SKS for $139.00, my smith handed it to me at the range to test, I bought it 40 rounds later. After shooting this one I decided a Tula was coming home soon.

I learned a long time ago, three things you don't critisize people people about: Thier religon, their wives ( or husbands for you ladies), and their guns. Life moves on a lot happier that way.

The gun fraternity eating on each other is a divide and conquor strategy, it serves no usefull purpose, and aids the gun grabbers.
