Gun Vault?

I have an early 50's built house-complete with full basement-complete with a tornado shelter-approx. 10X8X8. This room is fully encased in block/concrete.
Thoughts of buying a vault door+making a walk-in gun vault.
If anyone out there has done it, I would more than appreciate any thoughts/suggestions to this project.???Bill..

Sounds like a good idea. BTW is there any options to use the security of the vault door from the inside?? Like a panic room or a real secure area for shelter from said storm? Do the doors have an option to access the locking bolt mechanism from the inside? May want to look at reinforcing the ceiling also.

Yes, the vault door I'm looking at has inside release handle. The room is off to the side of one basement wall under the front porch of my house, with 3' of concrete ceiling. Actually the floor of my front porch.
I think that my main challenge will be to provide proper moisture barrier inside of the room. The basement is dry, but under ground, so the cooler temp. factor will draw dampness. I am going to have my Carpenter Man look at the room, to provide ideas+suggestions to moisture barrier/insulation, and proper electrical service, for dehumidifier and lighting. Possibly 24/7 lighting and/or Golden Rod type of moisture removal??

I thought of doing something like that one day well when I get a basement

I was going to build a second door or fake wall to hide the safe door just to add a extra layer of protection. Out of sight out of mind

billybob44 it sounds like a slam dunk for me. Is there any chalking of the concrete walls in the room? Calcium streaks? If it is dry the walls and floor won't have evidence of efflorescence...(I think that is the right word) You can also tape a 1 sq ft piece of saran wrap on the floor and walls securely and come back in a couple of days. If it is too moist the saran wrap will trap it and it will show the moisture. The false door suggestion by TheCol. is also a thought worthy of consideration.
There should be several ways to ventilate and power the room so as to be tamper proof. Man I wish I had the room to play something at my house.

I have a similar room in my house and have given serious consideration to making it into a gun/panic room. Currently, the room houses my gun safe, a cabinet for gun gear, a wine rack and a 'fridge. It's has 115 volt power and a light. The ceiling is comprised of 1/4" corrugated steel supported by six steel columns approximately 4" in diameter.

My basement is finished, but I plan to add in a wet bar some day. When I complete that project, the 'fridge and wine storage will migrate to the bar leaving the current room open for my desired purpose.
