With all of the fav gun, and only 1 gun, and best deal on a gun type threads lately I got to thinking about the ones that got away. After my divorce I sold several great guns, and have been sick ever since. Anyone else let something go that you are just sick to death over? My list is very long but I do have a couple I really miss!

An old Rem 1100 that was just about perfect and was the best shooting ole shotty I've ever had in my hands. :(

Browning A-Bolt 30-06 not a scratch! :(

Browning Sweet 16

Old Colt Woodsman .22

Old buckmark

And one of the two marlin 39's I had.

Nice Weatherby .338, and the list goes on! :banghead:

What is it that you have let go that makes you sick?

Got away

#1
Bought a Stoeger Arms .22 Luger from a store that was closing, case and holster included for the princely sum of $79 when I turned 21. Sold it 6 years later to someone that popped off a price that was too good to turn down. Found out last year that it is now worth a considerable amount more than both prices combined. DUMB! I have wanted that one back a lot of times!

#2 Bought a cheap ($40 NIB) .25 ACP from a local pawn shop. Believe it or not turned out to be a literal tack-driver. Sold it off too! Would like it back also.

The XSE Officers ACP I wanted real bad at the gun shop. I decided to "sleep on it overnight" Needless to say, I did not sleep at all that night, and it was gone the next morning.
And then there is the Enhanced Officers ACP in bright stainless that I can never find when I have the cash to purchase, but find when times are tight.

1940's M1 Garand, NIB, still packed in original box/wrapping/cosmoline. It belonged to the father-in-law (and retired Army Colonel) of a co-worker of mine. I could have had it for $700. This was about 5 years ago.

:(:(:(

Two guns, both .357 Magnums. 1 was a S&W 686, pre agreement, 2.5" barrel, stainless for $250. The other was a Dan wesson with multiple barrels, blued for $150. Being in college at the time I was unable to afford either unless I sold my Ruger Blackhawk which I got at a steal and wasn't about to part with.

Civil War era Spencer Carbine, in really really really good shape; loved it, but the owner at a gunshow wanted too much $$$$. And you know what? I couldn't fault him for it.

I couldn't afford it, either.....:uhoh: :(

I sold my first gun, a Glock 19, to a friend of mine a few months after I bought it. After some time at the range, I fell in love with the SIG P220, and decided I wanted one because the Glock was a "piece of plastic junk" in comparison.

I bought the P220 and I don't regret buying it. It's a great gun. However, I do miss owning a 9mm for inexpensive practice and concealed carry.

years ago-When I was 16 years old the sporting goods store had a like-new-with-box-papers Colt .22 Match Target for $110. A fella had bought it 2 weeks before he got hired as a deputy and had to trade it back in on a duty 38 revolver. I had the money in my pocket but couldn't purchase it without a parent because of my age at that time. Dad didn't think I needed it and said no.

Bought a Unertl 16x target scope before I went to college. Sold it at a pawn shop for $65 so I could buy a 35 mm camera. Had been on a rifle only once when rifle was fired and looked like new. Would probably have to pay over 10 times that amount today for a used one.

A S&W .38 of unknown model (4-inch barrel) handed me by my father when I was 16 and going to drive solo cross country — sold it to buy a Colt reissue SAA when they came out. Should have kept it (and bought the Colt too). Was smart enough to hang on to the other firearms he gave and/or bequeathed me.

I've passed up two that "haunt" me.

Slightly used Marlin 1894C for $300 because I disagreed with the store's policies and principles. Right. Good one.

Nickled S&W 940 because it could have been one of the local cop's backup. Maybe I can rationalize that one in good conscience.

Next time, you're mine. Always, next time...

I have had several nice guns in the past....HOWEVER i was younger then....I lost a few in pawn shops that I regret.
Taurus (mod 85 I think) 4" ported bbl in Nickle
I am not a big revolver fan but DARN that gun jus fit my hand good
Marlin 336... 30-30.......like new...pd $90 for and lost it for $60
and a couple of others i have lost in the past....

I WILL NEVER PAWN ANOTHER ONE OF MY GUNS
I have done a lot of growing up since those days.

I'm lucky - ain't sold a gun yet that i didn't want rid of. One i bought from a pawnie and ended up selling back to him - the other i gave to my dad - he confiscated my P22 and gave me back the knock off browning hi-power... (sigh) haven't managed to try to sell it yet. =) heheh

Steyr S9. Most accurate 9mm I ever owned. Compact, better trigger than Glock. Saftey inside of trigger guard.

Not gun related... sort of

My biggest regret is that my Grandfather was forced to sell off almost 100 vintage warplanes back in the mid 60s. I have seen the photos....

2-3 B-17s
2 B-26's I think
2 Mustangs.
T-33s by the ton
and a Pic of a PBY Catalina....

Lots of other various planes in the photos. None with obvious guns.
My grandfather used em as Borate bombers in Northern CA.

Wish we still had them. Still makes me cry.

Divorcing my Grandmother cost him alot, hehe

Oh, and losing a MIB Colt Python from first year of production.... that was a loss. Got there a few minutes after it sold.

Strictly speaking, these were not "Mine", but my maternal great-grandfather was an accomplished trophy hunter, and shortly after he died his wife(Who had alzheimers) GAVE away his entire +50 gun collection to some unscrupulous guy. :barf: :barf: :barf: None of the guns have ever turned up.

One time I bought a Colt Python 6" in beautiful blue used at a local shop for $550 but the timing was off a bit. It needed some work but the finish was absolutely stunning. Some car problems sprung up and I let it go for what I paid for it. Good luck finding another one of those for under a grand these days...I still regret having to sell that thing, but I guess a guy's got to get to work. Still...:banghead:

I sold off several pieces to help pay for my wedding, but the one I miss the most was a Spas 12 with full choke system...including the duck billed spreader choke. Still happily married, but I do miss the spas.

Mid eighties

Passed on a 4" S&W 624 and got a 686 instead. Now, 686's are a dime a dozen and 624's expensive and rare. Nimrod!

Sure, there have been a few guns I let get away. There was a Savage 99, cal. .300 Savage, for $375 at a California (born, raised and long time resident) gun show a few years ago. I looked at it a little more than briefly, but decided to go check out some other guns. When I came back to it, somebody already had it in their hands and was forking over the cash. Oh well. :( People are asking quite a bit more for them now, in much worse shape (banged-up stocks, etc.) than that one was.

More recently there were a couple of intriguing guns at the new Cabela's store's used gun rack. If they weren't bargain prices, they weren't outright ripoffs either. One was a Remington 141 (a pump-action rifle with a helical-grooved tubular magazine), cal. 35 Remington. It had a scope with a peculiar-looking mount that was screwed to the side of the receiver. Upon closer examination I found the mount was made by Pachmayr. Can't be too many of those around.

The other was an Ithaca 37 Featherweight in a short-barreled "riot" configuration, in 16 gauge. I could have put that one "to work." But in neither case did I have the money to spend without going into even more excessive debt. :(

I've thought about this subject many times.
Guns I sold that I wish I hadn't :
Colt Series 70 Commander - paid $290, sold it for $345
Steyr GB 9mm - paid $325, sold it for $365
Ruger MK l Bull Barrel - paid $90, sold for $140
S&W 66, 2" - paid $200, sold for $255
Three different Colt AR15s - made money on all of them but they are worth
a lot more now.

Guns I didn't buy that I should've:
Colt Commander 9mm - $300
Colt Diamondback .22 4" - $400
Colt Diamondback .22 - $145 new in 1974, bought an S&W 17 instead which is a great gun and I still have it but wish I had the Colt too.

And I'm sure there are a bunch of others but they slip my mind right now.
