Gunshow price check 11/5/22

I went to a show here in KY on Saturday. I was surprised by the high ratio of dealers to private sellers. Normally there are more single table hobbyists. Asking prices were higher than I would have expected given our current economic troubles. I don’t know how willing they were to come down because I didn’t see anything I really wanted.

There is one in a few weeks here, I really want to go in hopes of finding powder or primers. As to guns, learned a long time ago that the real "deals" at one are few and far between.

I figure if I can lay hands on a few pounds of powder, or some primers even if a tad more expensive it pays for hazmat shipping.

Leaving for Wanenmacher's Tulsa Arms Show, this Thursday. Been on my bucket list for over 20 years, it will be 634 mile drive. Meeting up with old steel mill buddy's from 3 other states. Hoping to find a .357 barrel for H&R Handi, maybe some Varget or even a 5" Model 10 .....we will see

)Mosssberg 46b, good condition, with vintage Weaver- $225 (tempting!)
As long as it's not a B series Weaver I would have probably bought that one, if that $225 was OTD

)Sig P220, German, no rail, .45, VG- $550
Depending on how many mags, if they had the box, etc...I woulda offered $500 cash and see if they'd bite. If they had 2 or more mags but no box I may have still paid up the $550, OTD of course.

We were out of town the weekend of the only gun show I've had decent luck at in recent years at the end of October. Kinda hated missing it because there a few guys that set up with a bunch of obscure parts, sights, etc...and I'm always in need.

It was a thin-tube 6x, not sure of the model, but the glass was clear. Overall a clean old gun\scope combo. Woulda bought it but I already have a nice 46B and 46M, lol.
The Sig had the box and 2 zipperback mags- it was a good deal for sure, but Ive already got 2 of those as well.....:D

2” K frames are always hot , that one was in the upper end of the range. Don’t see too many though.
The 3” m. 64 was a no-brainer. Bet it points nicely.

Yup that's another that woulda come home with me if I didn't have one already. ;)This is the Two Guys Show, which travels around S.Florida

I was at that show and really wish I saw the P220. It's one of the few full size guns on my short list. Otherwise it was pretty slim pickings for my wheelhouse. I made an offer on a Savage 1907 but seller wouldn't budge.

Was it the one just to the left of the front door under glass? That one was pretty rough anyway. He was the same guy that had the well-worn Remington 51 and he was high on that one too, IMO.
He had a S&W single shot that was pretty sweet. $1200 was actually fair for that gun and I thought about it for a split second. Lol.

That was the one. I looked at the R51and would have taken a shot on it if he accepted my offer on the ‘07. I am looking forward to this upcoming show. There are not a lot of “No Modern Firearms” shows anymore and I miss them. 081AED86-C8E2-4F15-AD7A-28260E1D3762.jpeg

I like the shows with all the black plastic guns. The more there are the better I like it. That way, I know that at least part of the crowd is looking for that kinda stuff and the segment of folks looking for the same things I am have to look harder. It's more work, but I've gotten pretty good deals buying the out of place gun on a table.

Of course, simple economics should prevail, and a show full of similar wares would indicate more reasonable prices. Just never seen it actually work that way at a gun show.

I predict gun sales will be brisk until the new laws comes into effect, After that i dunno.

I will see you there!
There are usually a handful of private sale milsurps, but overall not many actual firearms there. Some parts and accessories, bayonets and such. Its mostly web gear, uniforms, pins, and ammo cans- that sort of thing.
Still fun though, and hey, its free.... :)

Keeping my fingers crossed for a bayonet for my M1 that won't break the bank. I still kick myself for not coughing up the extra $100 for a WWII M4 when I got the Inland Carbine. Price seemed high at the time considering I have one from the 60's.

I was at the gun show about a month ago looking to buy a certain gun but prices were way more than expected. Next day I went to Dunhams Sports and bought the gun I was looking for. Dunhams is usually the higher priced gun store in town but was less than the gun show. The Dunhams guy said they did good gun related sales the 2 days of the show. He said several customers were talking about the high gun show prices.

I just went to a show last weekend. I never go to a show looking for current production guns of any kind. I have found the prices are always high. Now in the "used" area you can find deals now and then, and generally I buy reloading components as the hazmat fee is generally more then the price to enter the show.

This past weekend I came across a few things, first was large rifle primers.
Do you have any large rifle primers
yes
How much
$125, how many do you want.
How many do you got.

I walked away with 6k, that should do me at least a year provided I can source the other things, but at least primers are not holding me back.

Also scored some powder that was sold at the local going rate.

Two guns did hit my eye a martini henry for $400, in fairly good shape. And the one I will likely kick myself over a Marlin camp in 45. I really wanted that and the guy said he would deal on it. Bet I could have had it for a grand. I really want those "old" carbines in hand gun flavors. Kicking myself now, but that is the cost of my loft....when did I start doing "adult" things....gotta put a stop to that.
